Ciavola Nera

Dissidente Vino Rosso 2019

Red from the Mt.Pollino tasting i organised.
We are again in Calabria
Fabio callls himself an anarchist, but in saying that he just emphasises the fact that he knows the good way from the bad way of doing things without someone telling him what and how to do it. It's about taking responsibilities.
The company is a cooperative which does wine and figs mainly and the follow a bit of synergistic agriculture and permaculture.
He has complete respect for the land and the whole idea of give and take from Earth.
The wine is 100% guarnaccino nero he says and here starts a big argument with the Chiaromonte producer i know, but definitely the vines are old here, from 1974. Here Fabio says Guarnaccino nero is a harder version of magliocco as a plant and the wine has a deeper colour.
However the bottles i opened last night had a huge volatile to start with, barnyard was the scent, someone said hay, someone animal, i reckon it was all at once. But it did blow off after long time and the mouth was super good and long.
So i would say that this must need a big decanting of hours and it will be another story.
I will definitely give it a second chance
Mouth was better than the Toccomagliocco

Having this wine that is reasonably priced and taste really good with pizza made by a 2nd generation Italian pizza maker. We had to visit this place in West Hollywood to check out the pizza and oven 😉 — 7 years ago

600 Grotte

Receipt Basilicata Guarnaccino Rosso 2017

Big wine, big fruit, mineral vein, pronounced freshness
A good grip, fairly long and in a balance
Potential to age
Unfortunately 600 grotte(600 caves) has disappeared
I believe this is the last vintage produced
600 are the caves in Chiaromonte where traditionally people would age wine, cheese or cured meats..beautiful part of the world

It has a funk at the end that I haven’t decided if I like it or not. But still, get red wine. — 7 years ago

Riserva Gioia Del Colle Primitivo 2008

A Primitivo Riserva that is incredibly reminiscent of a reserve Amarone. Silky smooth and not too sweet. Highly recommended to all my friends in the mood for an Interesting Amarone like experience. — 10 years ago

Guarnaccino Rosé Blend 2021

Only 3600 btls produced
I went to an Enoteca to look for work and ended up leaving with a mixed 6 packed box of wine
Guarnaccino, they told me, is the real only indigenous grape of Basilicata🤷‍♂️🤔....
However the story is..yes there is a story...
I got invited at a friend of mine's house for a glass of wine...he lives in the NP, surrounded by the forest and mountains... he pulls a rope from the creek(yes there's a creek in the property) with a cold , hanging bottle of rose self produced andhe says...ah, the grapes come from Chiaromonte, i do nothing, i wait a week for yeasts to do their work, then i wait more till the wine is good, Chiaromonte is wine territory, good wine, let's see what you think....the wine was delicious, refreshing and crisp drank out of shot glasses.
Well when i saw this very first bottle of rose from Chiaramonte i grabbed it at once, before i was told about the indigenous grape thing, but it fits somehow in the plot
Anyway i am very happy to see that out of this region we have marvellous wines that are unknown to the mainstream, but they are there available for you to enjoy.
This rose screams joy, it's crisp, clean and long and so easy to drink that it looks like it evaporates
