Tablas Creek Vineyard

Full Circle Haas Vineyard Pinot Noir 2020

Thanksgiving Paso Robles trip second day first stop. Tiny production of 100% Pinot Noir grown at Robert Haas’s home in the Templeton Gap. Quite precise. Purity of fruit. Fresh red fruited - cranberry juice, sea weed, bright pale ruby, medium acidity and medium minus tannins. — 4 years ago

Zenaida Cellars

Wanderlust Estate Red Rhone Blend 2017

9.2

I pulled this to compare to the Azimuth.
Nice mix of cranberry, cherry, plum, and blueberry. Full body disguised by the lively fresh acidity. Good fruit intensity and sense of purity. Supple tannins. Long smooth finish.
Templeton Gap is in general considered the coolest sub-appellation, and Willow Creek sits immediately N/NW of Templeton Gap with higher elevation. I think the composition of the varieties has more to do with the differences of the 2 bottles than geographic. More Grenache in this bottle.

Jack Creek Cellars

Reserve Kruse Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012

The only pinot I’ve ever had from Paso Robles, Jack Creek culled out a vineyard in the Templeton Gap that brings in enough cool air at night to make pinot work in a place you’d otherwise would never think should produce pinot. This one has some age on it but is still drinking really well (as opposed to the regular bottling which has lost a fair bit of steam). — 5 years ago

Templeton Gap Zinfandel Blend 2019

Ming L
9.1

Ripe blackberry and plum lead, with brambly raspberry, black pepper, and warm baking spice. A touch of dark chocolate frames a generous, almost jammy fruit core. The palate is lush yet lively, with enough acidity lifting the richness and keeping it focused. Supple tannins and a hint of dried herbs carry through a smooth fruity finish. This has aged well and I think it will continue to improve in the bottle for the next 3-4 years.

The winery was sold in 2022. The new owner seems to focus producing Cab - a pity.

Force de Fleurs White Rhone Blend 2021

Ming L
8.9

The best bottling of this white Rhone blend I’ve tasted yet, the 21’ gets the Templeton Gap designation and no longer has Picpoul Blanc which was blended in the previous 2 vintages.
Aromatic floral nose. Palate remains textured like previous vintages but with much crisper acidity.

Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

9.2

Have not had a Paso cab for a while. This one is quite satisfying.
Signature Paso lush candied fruits. There is cool vibe on the rich palate with licorice and hint of menthol. Good acidic and tannin structure that suggests long drinking window ahead.
I think this ‘19 bottling is better than the ‘17 and ‘18.

Solar Fel Templeton Gap District Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2019

Ming L
9.1

This is the Solar Fel, the first vintage of this CS/PV/CF blend, all estate grown, and it’s a great start.
The nose has a purple floral component that I seldom associate with Paso, in addition to ripe plum, bing cherry, black steeped tea, dried herbs, and dark chocolate. Rich and supple palate. Enticing acidity. Candied mellow tannins. Deliciousness all around.

L'Aventure

Chloé Willow Creek District Red Blend 2018

Jeb 99 pointer, Another 2nd day wine, if you’re looking for a typical Paso Fruit bomb go to Austin Hope. If you want real wine head to L’ Aventure
Some history,

Stephan Asseo, owner and winemaker at L'Aventure Winery, began making wine in 1982, following his education at L'Ecole Oenologique de Macon, Burgundy, France. In that same year, Stephan established Domaine de Courteillac in Bordeaux. He and his family later purchased Chateau Fleur Cardinal and Chateau Robin in the Cotes de Castillion, Bordeaux. Over the next 15 years, Stephan developed into an artisan winemaker of fastidious craftsmanship and gained a reputation as a maverick vigneron. However, his true desire was to be more innovative than AOC law would allow. In 1996, this led him, his wife, Beatrice and his three children, including his daughter Chloé on a quest for a great terroir, where he could pursue his ideal as a winemaker. After searching for over a year among the world's great wine fields, ranging from South Africa to Lebanon, Argentina to Napa, they found Paso Robles. Stephan and Beatrice immediately "fell in love" with the unique terroir of west side Paso Robles. The rolling topography of the Santa Lucia Mountain Range, the deep calcareous soils, and the maritime influences of the renowned Templeton Gap all combine to produce a world class wine country, with the potential to craft some of the world's greatest blends. It is here, in Paso Robles, that Stephan and his family began their adventure, "L'Aventure" in 1998.
