I’m not yet a frequent South African wine drinker, but I know one when I smell one. Just a tiny bit of burnt rubber on this one, a tell-tale sign. The aromatics on this blend are slightly muted but I pickup some blackberries, tar, sawdust, and a little chocolate. It’s actually a bit lighter drinking than expected though, medium bodied and medium tannins. Has a spicy and game -like quality to it, not too much fruit. Plums and dark cherries if anything. Good balance all around. Medium finish. — 12 days ago

Similar notes from April 2020 when I last had it. A red fruited nose giving a lovely earthy perfume with Sous Bois influences. Loam, compost heap nose. Same red fruits on the medium weight palate with strawberry and a touch of raspberry. As Jasper Morris said in his book, Lavaux St Jacques is one of the cooler sites in Gevrey Chambertin. This is always the last Rousseau wine to be picked and enjoying a longer hang time. After a couple of hours, just a gorgeous nose. — 3 years ago

Medium golden color. Aromas of unripe peach, lemon zest and jasmine. The palate is full of lemon/lime/orange citrus flavors and ginger with additional notes of green apples, melon and pears. Long and lingering finish that is a touch (but pleasantly) salty. Chewy texture with a high level of acidity. Quite complex and well crafted. — 8 months ago
