Ruston Family Vineyards

Cuvée Simone Napa Valley Red Blend 2019

This beautiful cab dominant blend (15% merlot) promises to be one of their best vintages in a long while. Dark fruits with a depth of flavor uncharacteristic for an only slightly big medium-bodied wine. Playfully spicy with a good tannic core. This got better each day over a 5 day timeframe. This is gonna be a great wine in 5 years. — 4 years ago

St. Helena Cabernet Franc 2017

The 2017 is out and it is delicious. Definitely has the makeup of something that will be improving over the next couple years. — 5 years ago

Stagecoach Vineyard Petit Verdot 2006

More jammy up front at PnP than 07. Settled in nicely though. Nose of blackberries. Tastes of blackberry, black raspberry, dark cherry. Some cocoa and graphite notes and spicy black pepper at the finish. Great tannins still there at the end. — 6 years ago

Nose of toasted oak. Deep dark garnet color. Plums, cassis, blackberry jam, cherry cola. Cedar and some black pepper. Love this stuff. Only a few left. #sadness — 8 years ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Ruston is hard to beat. My favorite winemaker. Potent alcohol/wood taste really makes this a great flavor. Let it sit a couple hours for best flavor you've tasted in a cab. — 11 years ago

St. Helena Merlot 2017

A big chewy Merlot w red currants, pomegranate, white pepper, some raspberry, black pepper, and a touch of charred oak. Silky tannins. Plenty of room for growth w some years but this is drinking really nicely. — 5 years ago

Cuvée Lorraine Napa Valley Red Blend 2009

Both dark red and tart cherries, black pepper, oak and some nice tannic structure. A bit of earthiness as well. Really opened up after about 30 mins. Cab Franc/Cab Sav/Merlot 70/22/8%. Really great stuff. — 6 years ago

Classic California chardonnay without the oakiness. There is a good balance here and the wine really bursts with flavor when tasted with food. — 5 years ago

Cuvée Mahalia St. Helena Red Blend 2016

This Bordeaux blend is merlot dominant w cab, cab sav, and petit verdot. It’s still tight from being too young. But showed nice layers and fruit w legit tannins. Will revisit in 2 more years. — 6 years ago

Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2015

@lastbottle this is the regular sav blanc not single vineyard.
More round than crisp, this is full of mango, a touch of lime, and tastes of an obscure MI fruit called a paw paw. There’s a hint of honeysuckle at the finish. Refreshing on a hot day. Really nice.

La Maestra St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Greg Ballington
9.0

Second vintage of Ruston Family La Maestra Cabernet Sauvignon for us, not as expressive on the nose as the 2008 but with some more aged characteristics to it. Deep ruby red with a slight garnet edge. Lots of sweet spices and dark berries on the nose. Medium tannins (6/10) and medium to medium plus bodied. Layered palate with a spice kick to start, some earthy characteristics and dark berries. A little damp showing the age as well as some dark cocoa, dark gravel and iron too. Medium plus length finish. Needed around 30 minutes to open up but then started aging quite rapidly. Drink till 2018. — 9 years ago

Do you think that the 'sale' had anything to do with it? Possibly affecting the bottle?

Good question @Rob Brobst III but have had the 08 from the same store at a sale price too and that was better. Maybe this vintage for this winery isn't doing so well aging
