Riverland Montepulciano 2021

See previous Delectable notes for Bellwether Montepulciano. Bellwether is based In Coonawarra but these grapes come from the warmer Riverland area perfectly suited to Monte like its homeland of Abruzzo in Italy. This had a youthful colour - fruit driven with minimal oak influence. Medium to full bodied showing plums and aniseed. Can be drunk now or experience short term cellaring. Barb and I loved having a hand in making this wine when we did vintage at Bellwether in 2021. — 16 days ago

@Doug Powers Just to be clear Doug, this had nothing to do with Montalcino in Tuscany. Montepulciano grows widely in neighbouring Abruzzo. Cheers.

I have a bottle of Australian Nebbiolo coming soon with a friend. That will be a first for me!

Durif 2014

After introducing itself by punching you in the nose, it follows up with a Liverpool kiss. This wine is huge, and needed 48 hours to properly mellow. It packs a punch with alc/vol exceeding 9%, and was almost undrinkable on night one. By night 3 the sheer violence it threatened had softened from a ferocious roar, to the low level grumble of a big V8 engine. Give this one time and space and the rewards are well worth it — 10 months ago
