Gobelsburger Kamptal Grüner Veltliner 2016

Purchased at Whole Foods ($20) and then brought it to their cafe. No corkage fee. Enjoyed with fish tacos. Could have used a quick decant. — 21 hours ago

Nigl

Privat Grüner Veltliner

Jellied asparagus beneath lemon curd, ripe peach, white apricot and white roses, airy pineapple and golden raisin, frame a lemon marmalade on light toast. Almost oily mouthfeel that texturally resonates with a materializing jalapeño jam. Pineapple essence, poached Bosc pear, suggesting its white pepper near the finish line with tangerine pith, orange zest and fruitcake; all while staying sincere in its effort to dazzle the paparazzi with effortless gestures and perfectly-timed poses befitting its natural magnanimity. #grüner #grünerveltliner #gruner #grunerveltliner #austrianwine #austrian #weiss #weissgold #Nigl #NiglPrivat #kremstal #weingut #wein #wein #Senftenberg — 6 days ago

Nikolaihof

Hefeabzug Grüner Veltliner 2015

Nose is light and green: apple, pear, hay, funk. Palate zings along with more of the same. Very well-made. Beautiful notes, structure, and balance. Lacking only that extra layer of complexity which would place it in the top rank. — 20 days ago

Zwickl Grüner Veltliner 2015

Everyone who likes Germanic/Austrian whites needs to know Nikolaihof, the first certified biodynamic producer in Austria. I’ve only had Zwikl and Hefeazburg but I try to always have one of each in my fridge. Incredible complexity and beauty for under $30. These two wines are both gv from the same vineyard, the Zwikl is unfiltered. It’s fun to try side by side. Also fun to try unshaken then shaken. Strong yeast profile. Flavors of apple, fennel, white pepper, and pear. Lean and complex. — 24 days ago
