Another world famous Wine Nerd Herd Virtual Tasting this time on the docket was Spanish wines. This 100% Grarnacha showed in full force...caramel and violets on the nose-delicate in so many ways, not overly oaked, such fine balance and precision that speaks of a hybrid of old and new world. Amazing to buy a 23 year old Penfolds Bin 128 as good as this for $125 - only at Penfolds HQ at Magill Estate Adelaide. Still the Penfolds DNA of Choc Malt Mocha on this lovely old Shiraz. Dusty plummy notes, some old wood and leather notes. Tannins resolved - everything balanced. Shows the quality and ability to age of all Penfolds Cuvées. — 4 years ago

Smoky Peaty and spirity aromas Also Iodine and Briny notes showing its maritime location. A single malt matured in charred oak casks. There is some conjecture as to whether Talisker is classified as Island or Islay but suffice to say it is the only Distillery on the Isle of Skye. Had a tour of Talisker many years ago after going to the HQ of the MacDonald Clan on Skye. I bought this 1 Litre bottle at Gatwick Airport about 2 months ago before we headed up to Inverness and the Highlands. — 5 years ago

One of the great offerings from Top and @Stanley Barrios the Wine Nerd Herd had the opportunity to taste from a shiner bottle and was impressed then. Now in “bottle” mineral accented by wild strawberry and wet stone. Dried flowers and layers of ripe cherries create a great offering.

EDIT-I’m upping my score, as this warms up in the glass I get a viscous mouthfeel that draws me back for more. — 4 years ago
