Muro Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2014

Dark cherry color with aromas of ripe black fruit, dark chocolate, rosemary, and wet soil. Tannins are velvety and savory with flavors on the palate of smoke, balsamic, and spices. Nice acidity, long length with a sweet vanilla finish. Will age for many more years. Fantastic price/quality relation from this very small, boutique family winery in Rioja Alavesa. — 5 years ago

Muro Crianza

This is 100% Tempranillo, not a blend, and is the Crianza from 2015. Aromas of black fruit, vanilla, tobacco leaf, pepper, and spice. Tannins have nice grip and the medium plus acidity makes it luscious. Flavors equal aromas with a bonus of smoke and slate. Medium finish. Lots of time left for this one, it will get even better! — 6 years ago

Reserva Val Sotillo Ribera del Duero Tempranillo 2004

Tried at 2011 vintage at the bodega which was very good and picked up a bottle of the 2004 after taking with the wine maker, Miguel Angel, about the excellent quality of the vintage. He did not lead us astray. Deep color and big flavors but smooth with medium tannins. Dark Plum and tomato flavors with cedar wood, leather a little bit of vanilla. Greatly enjoyed this wine as well as a few others that we had during our visit to the winery. On a side note, the caves under the mountain at this winery were unreal. Hundreds of years old and still used today as the location to age the riserva’s and gran riserva’s — 7 years ago

La Sonriente Calatayud Garnacha 2014

Delicious. My favorite grape. This is unusually smooth for this wine and very easy drinking despite a rather high alcohol content. Miguel Angel Jimenez approved! — 9 years ago
