An interesting metamorphosis: at first taste last night, it seemed to be past its prime, with a brown sugar hint, and just a touch too much toasted oak on the nose. Come back to it tonight, and it seemed to bounce back to its prime, focusing on the fruit, balance and elegance we expected. — 8 years ago
2020 vintage. Tasted after 2.5 hours open at approx 50 degrees and 60 degrees. Medium/medium heavy body. Big, light toast oak influence paired with slightly overripe red delicious apple, hints of citrus and pear. Searched so hard (without success) for mineral influences that I nearly changed my profession on Linked In to "prospector/miner." Usually enjoy most white efforts from this producer. This particular one seemed to be in a state of transition. Would like to taste again in a year-two years to taste the metamorphosis. 08.01.25. — 2 months ago
Absolutely delicious champagne. I think the only other Dom I’ve had from 04 was the metamorphosis. This is much nuttier - in a nice way. Fine bubbles, great mouthfeel, very long finish, good acid. Overall perhaps slightly less refined and deep than I was hoping, but still a treat. Nice pairing with a shrimp etouffe that I was inspired to make after a recent trip to New Orleans. — 2 years ago
So much of what I want in a textbook Albariño I love that there’s a body, a weight, and also a almost effervescence. This one massages and lightly scratches like the best of back rubs except it’s your tongue so get into that. Apples and greens and lilies are finished with cream and fleur de seal. Gosh this wine would be a great vegetarian side were it to metamorphosis into solid food. — 4 years ago
Very big and bold. Definitely not a pizza wine but more of a steak or meat wine. — 3 months ago

Trying just a glass was caught by the label as part of Evolving is evidenced in metamorphosis like a butterfly. And the wine isnt bad 😉 — 4 years ago
Cellared these since last summer and they’ve gone through an awesome metamorphosis. On release they were heavily acid driven with beautiful light fruit. Now the syrah and grenache really shine through while braced by that now integrated acidity leaving a beautifully limpid rose. Delicious. — 7 years ago

2018 vintage. Last tasted 04.08.23 (9.5), 12.01.22 from a 375ml (9.5) and upon release 06.07.21 (9.5). Decanted and tasted after 45 minutes. Mysterious, dark-fruited and dusty nose. Medium body with excellent darkness of night color. Previous baby-fat overtures approximately 90% gonzo. Slimming down and getting more toned. In a state of transition with undeniable tension that can easily be misconstrued as underperforming. Last wine I tasted that was under this sort of metamorphosis at this level was the 1996 Pichon-Lalande about 1.5 years ago. Such a privilege to experience world-class wines in such a vulnerable moment. Everything is laid out bare/naked before you and you can see where the wine is headed and whether it will be following a trajectory that agrees with you. Definitely unusual to find this occurring in a wine this youthful but the 21st Century is smashing the old 20th Century clay tablets and digitizing. For most wine enthusiasts sampling this wine now, expecting some disappointment in the scoring. For myself, this is currently in the perfect symmetry of past, present and future. Will it show critically better in the future according to the accepted trials, palates, judges and juries? Probably. Will they experience the potential, doubts, insecurities and questions? Doubtful. This kid stays in this exact picture for another 2-4 years imho before striking another pose and I would love to taste this again during that time frame. An above and beyond thank you to FLB (Friday Lunch Bunch) regular Todd. 08.15.25. — 2 months ago
