Estate Red Blend 2010

From a 16 acre vineyard in the hills of Bel Air. Probably the most expensive vineyard property in the US. It’s currently owned by Rupert Murdoch, but this is from before his purchase in 2013. This is legit good. Much better than any Malibu wines I’ve had. 13.8 listed alcohol and fairly restrained style. Let’s rip down all of those mansions and plant some grapes! — 5 months ago

Purple Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

2009 and 2010 are consistent in style and quality. Raspberry and dark red fruit skins. More Bordeaux than California in flavor, balance and finish. 09 has more persistent fruit while 10 has meatier and earthier nose and body. — 2 years ago

Dark and deep like the name. Drinking smokey deep dark purple velvet in a glass. Floral yet brooding and dark. A long time favorite. Decant at least one hour. Will age well. — 4 years ago

Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a nice surprise.

Inky in color with a wide purplish rim.

On the nose cherries, blueberries, black currants, black plums, herbs, spices, light tobacco, light oak, dark chocolates and light earth.

Full bodied, smooth and elegant, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, ripe cherries, oak, light vanilla, spices, licorice, red candy, light earth, peppercorn, coffee, chocolates and herbs.

Nice length on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Los Angeles County. Easy drinking once it opens up properly. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel.

This Single Vineyard Cabernet from Malibu Coast, is already showing nice complexity.

Needs 90 minutes in a decanter to open up properly, so be patient.

This 4 year old is starting to drink nicely now, but still young, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. Showing good potential to become a 94+ point wine.

Smooth, rich and elegant. Fruit-forward and tangy. Good by itself or with food, and will pair nicely with BBQ Meats. I paired it with a Charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

A blend of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc. Aged in 100% new French Oak barrels for 22 months.

15.1% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

Seriously, Malibu. Do you have to use an inch of wax to seal every bottle? You're really making me work for this one. Ripe black cherry and baking spice entices the nose. Young bright and fun on the palate. It's definitely equipped for aging across the decade. Just have a machete handy to bust through that wax. Paired tonight's offering with a massive rare tomahawk steak. Nom nom. — 4 years ago

Delicious, and thrilling.

A burnished cherry color. Dry hay, barley, red berry, sloe, damson plum, and raisin on the nose with cocoa, Malibu (coconut rum), berry jam and caramel sweetness on the palate... along with salt, savor, some astringency and a rapier-like acidity.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenache Blend 2015

Sho-nuf I like my chateauneuf! Wild, floral, but muscular and strong.

Usually, I try to pay attention during wine tastings, but honestly a lot of the time I am just imagining how well I would do in American Gladiators. Especially the early 90s version. (When I was a young and impressionable kid.)

I thought Malibu was an idiot and I knew I could take him out in the jousting competition, though I was certain Nitro would bash my head in with a pipe pretty quickly. Diamond... she scared me. The intense lipstick reminded me of some horrible creature of the night in search of blood. I preferred Lace. In fact, I really preferred Lace. (The first version: Marisa Pare. Not the later Lace played by Natalie Lennox Merritt.) I imagine the reason I have a penchant for wild tangled hair now is because of my infatuation with American Gladiator Lace when I was 4-7 years old. When I was younger, I would often imagine battling with Lace. As the events got more intense she would throw herself on top of me in frustration and we'd roll down the gladiator pyramid, making out in a heap of sexual energy and wild animalistic thrusting.

But I digress.

This wine smells like Lace.
