Madonna Nera

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2013

Silky smooth, ruby red, clear see-through; tar, violets, white flowers, and dried cherries on the nose; polished tannins, elegant rather than powerful, beautiful balance, with subtle red fruit and spice; refined, lingering finish wothout anything ”sticking out”. Classic 2013?! — 13 days ago

Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Not sure I would have called this Napa blind. Cedar, cassis, currant, chestnuts, pepper, and a hint of dark chocolate and tiny bit of berries. Really tasting good right now! — 6 years ago

Dolcetto 2015

This is beautiful! Such a food friendly wine with berries galore and nice herbal tea like notes. Consistently one of the best stateside dolcetto wines available. Could also stand another 5-10 years of age as well. — 7 years ago

St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

2015. Good, but can’t compare with the 2014 we had at Sonoma Mission Inn in Sept 2019. Wouldn’t buy again for $50. — 7 years ago

Temecula Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Earthy baked blueberry-boysenberry sauce smothers the senses. On the palate we are enveloped in a robe of silky tannins and astringent tart forest berries. Earthy herby goodness coats and tames young jam even in the '12 vintage.

Decanted 2 hours.

Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese Blend 2015

Very fruit forward with black cherry & some blueberry, a touch of sundries tomatoes and well integrated wood (used French large tonneaux). Nice balance and polished tannins, the 2015 is highly drinkable — 9 years ago

Bolla

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2015

When Abele Bolla opened up Al Gambero Inn in the northern Italian town of Soave over 100 years ago, no one could have guessed that the favorite pastime of winemaking would continue for four generations. Deep Ruby with aromas of jammy berry fruits, spice and oak. On the palate cherry and dried plum with bold spice, floral, cacao and cedar. Structured firm tannins, nicely balanced on long finish ending with fruit, cedar and earthy spice. Just starting to drink well now with room to age. — 5 years ago

California Petite Syrah

Blackberry jam and lingering campfire incense nose. Pie. Pie. Blackberry Pie. Crusty and crumbly and baked to perfection. Berries burst upon lips' touch. Dessert in a glass, but by no means sweet. Highly astringent, succinctly slicing that pie on the finish.

Decanted briefly, but may certainly be decently liberally with gusto!
