This bottling showed up at my Costco for $26.99. On experience, I thought it must be a pretty good burgundy value. Louis Latour a pretty good grower, producer & Negociant. So, I bought one. I was going to do a Premier Cru Chablis, but thought I’d try this tonight. 2023 also an amazing white burgundy vintage. And of course, to see if I wanted a few more.

This nose shows; sour green apple, golden apple, kiwi, lime, lemon, pineapple, white stone fruit, light orange citrus blend, honeysuckle, some dry herbs, vanilla, cream, caramel, dry twig/tree bark, beautiful chalkiness, limestone & volcanic powder, white & yellow lilies w/ greens.

The palate is round, viscous and waxy. Green apple, golden apple, kiwi, lime, lemon, pineapple, apricots, white stone fruit, light orange citrus blend, honeysuckle-comb, some dry herbs, vanilla, cream, caramel, butterscotch, touch of mint, graham crackers, dry twig/tree bark, beautiful chalkiness, dry limestone & volcanic powder, gentle white spice, white & yellow lilies w/ greens, grand, round, rainfall acidity, well knitted, balance for days with an elegantly, smartly polished finish that lasts nearly two-minutes.

I believe the key to enjoying white burgundy is to let it warm to 55-61, not 46-48. Leave warmer climate, well wooded Chardonnay to the well chilled. Or, not well made Chardonnay…it cover up its flaws. Warmer temps bring out the flavor & beauty of good Chardonnay. — 5 days ago

My favorite Macon Chard. This wine drinks so much higher than its cost. Green apple, lemon curd, used oak, acidic, full bodied. Excellent with cheese, cream sauce. Love to pair it with an Alfredo Chicken pizza. — 7 months ago

Wow. Such a nice wine coming from humble origins. Needs some air to express itself. On the nose yellow lilies, apple blossom, almost a hint of jasmine, just ripe yellow apple, just ripe pear, a touch of fresh vanilla. On the palate, this really shines. Ripe orchard fruits, rich without being cloying. Blind I would place this as a village Meursault. Yellow apple, pear, touch almond, buttery and rich texture with minimal oak, crème brûlée; I’m assuming from skillful lees management . Good acidity, decent length. 13 abv. 24 usd at the grocery store. I haven’t seen ratings anywhere near where I’ve placed this, but maybe this is a product of a good vintage? Pop and pour, notes from 45 min open. Lovely, and my best bottle..also my last '12. On the nose: lemon, soft ginger, a touch of honey, some sour apple. Overview
Mâcon-Villages is often considered the “gateway” to Burgundy whites, made for freshness and early drinking. What makes this bottle remarkable is its survival—cellared for a decade, it defies expectations for such an entry-level Chardonnay. Proof that even modest Bourgogne whites can occasionally surprise.

Aromas & Flavors
Candied baked pear, hints of honey, and touches of bruised apple. Some oxidative tones, but still carrying a thread of orchard fruit brightness.

Mouthfeel
Rounded and softened with age, medium-bodied, and gently waxy. Less about crispness now, more about mellow textures and faded fruit.

Food Pairing
Best suited for soft cheeses (Brie, Délice de Bourgogne), roasted chicken, or simply enjoyed contemplatively on its own for its curiosity factor.

Verdict
Not the most refined or expressive, but undeniably fascinating—especially given it was crafted for youthful freshness. A gentle reminder that Chardonnay, even from humble origins, can age with surprising grace.
