Steve Lutz the winemaker is spot on in that the 'off' years in the Yamhill/Carlton AVA are turning into gems. Dark cherry, strawberry and subtle tobacco with a strong backbone. This wine can definitely continue to sit but is really shaping up to be a special vintage and delicious now. — 8 years ago

The differences between good and very good Chablis lie in the nuances. In this Premiere Cru from Herve Azo, we get lots to drool over - transitions from smell into texture into flavor. Crisp, clean, flinty yeasty lemons triple lutz into fully lush lemon cream. Coats the tongue like robes of sweet tropical fruit fondit.

First vintage of this wine, Uwe Schiefer made out of a parcel which is directly beside the one from Roland Velich (Moric). A different Schiefer. Much leaner & withy with a hint more precision than the Reihburg imo. The fruit is withdrawn, lots of herbs & earth notes. Tons of potential under the surface so give it the time it needs. I am staying in Oregon tonight and going to the Yamhill-Carlton area for my Pinot Noir. This effort is from Steve and Karen Lutz in collaboration with David O'Reilly and Owen Row. This is a strong Oregon Pinot Noir with aromas of strawberry, cranberry, mint, mocha, and a good forest floor aspect. On the palate I get tart strawberries, dark cherry, cranberry, truffles, clove, and herb note. There is a good grained tannins, a medium + acidity with a long lasting finish. I purchased this wine from my store of choice for $39.99. — 9 years ago
