On paper they say 08 wasn’t a good vintage but hey I love it. Old vine Reynard is excellent in 2008 showing all the Allemand sigs with dark fruit, olive tapenade and a liquid rock minerality. 08 is particularly Bordeaux like and not at all thin—that magical Reynard vineyard really ups the concentration of any vintage. Always a thrill to drink Allemand, my favorite Syrah. — 4 months ago

Quite light ruby garnet , wide garnet rim . Quite open and powerful on the nose with sweet cherry , rose , mint , porcini , earl grey tea , dried herbs and liquorice . On the palate lovely herbal tinged red cherry and raspberry , mineral and saline also , those porcini and earl grey notes coming through also . Fresh acidity and ripe but pretty grippy tannins , good length and balance . Overall there is a sense of elegance and freshness with the sweet fruit balanced with fresh acidity. This is showing well though quite young with pretty noticeable tannins that need some air and food to ameliorate. Probably even better in 5 years or so and will last a further 10-15 years — 2 years ago

Rayas 08 exceeded my expectations — it was in great condition. We decanted it at 3 PM and started drinking at 7 PM. In the first phase, it showed sweet red fruit notes. In the second phase, herbal/vegetal notes emerged. In the third phase, a cooling mintiness appeared.

This bottle wasn't as explosively aromatic as the 07 I opened last time — that 07, after two hours of decanting, unleashed an incredibly rich and enchanting floral bouquet. It was like the scent of a garden transitioning from summer into autumn — grand and opulent, with a hint of fading beauty. Notes of black cherry, rose, and blood orange intertwined, and the aromas kept evolving over time — garrigue, incense — complex and alluring, with a grand structure and a rich, round palate.

The 08, on the other hand, feels more like a refined lady from a scholarly family — graceful, gentle, intellectual, with no aggressive edge. — 2 days ago
