Leather, tabacco, and coffee on the nose. Flavors are a perfect balance of earthy wood, super soft tannins, medium acidity and elegant particular dry fruit. Texture is very soft and soooo silky. Fruit is very subtle and wood is definitely the biggest component but is well integrated and not overwhelming. Long finish. Overall perfectly balanced and elegantly complex. It reminds me of Le Volte dell Ornellaia a little. 13.5% abv β 9 years ago
Black current, prunes, red cherry and scent of violet quickly turns to impressive secondary note of dried herbs, pencil lead, tobacco, dark chocolate and hint of barnyard. In the palate itβs full and rich, but finely balanced, with bittersweet tannins.
40%/35%/25% Merlot/CS/CF, 6 month used French oak barrel. This is the first release of the second wine of Orma, and I think itβs better than La Volte, the 2nd wine of its next door neighbor Ornellaia. β 6 years ago
On Friday I had the pleasure of enjoying the 2014 Tenuta dell' Ornellia "Ornellaia" Bolgheri. 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 20% Petit Verdot and 14% Cabernet Franc. This is the second Ornellaia I have had the pleasure of tasting. The first was the 2013 which was smoother and a bit more in tune yet both very smooth and enjoyable.
The nose of the 2014 has notes of black cherry, blackberry, plum, black currant, lilac, clove, iron, oak and nice earthiness.
On the palate was black cherry, blackberry, plum, black currant, sage, leather, graphite and smoky oak.
This wine is medium in body, medium + acidity, medium + smooth tannins that leads to a long fruity finish. An enjoyable wine yet a bit young that has at least 20 years to go. Enjoy your weekend and be safe. Nostrovia! π·π·π·π· β 7 years ago

2001 Tenuto dell' Ornellaia Masseto merlot. Drank during date night at Vincenti. Decanted about an hour before drinking, but it was still massive. It was a gorgeous wine though- full bouquet of fruits and rich tannins. Loved it! β 9 years ago

Today I had the pleasure of having the 2011 Tenuta Dell' Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore. 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. A beautiful expression of the "Ornellaia" and you would never know that it is 7 years old, it seems a lot younger than that.
On the nose the black fruit is very prevalent with black cherry, black raspberry, black currant, licorice, menthol, herbs, chocolate, pencil shavings and dusty soil.
On the palate the dark fruit continues through with black cherry, black raspberry, black currant, licorice, violet, coffee, spice, smokey oak and rich soil.
A well balanced full bodied wine with medium + electric acidity and medium + mouth coating sandy tannins that leads to a long medicinal cherry finish. Have a great weekend and please be safe. Nostrovia! π·π·π·π· β 6 years ago
