Laphroig

Talisker

Aged 10 Years Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Smoky with brief notes from me. Not as peaty as you would expect from the western isles. Had a tour of this distillery some years ago on the Isle of Skye which is the spiritual home of the Clan Donald ie McDonald. Probably prefer the peaty styles of Lagavulin and Laphroig. — 2 years ago

Peat + moscatel. Actually closer to Laphroig. Gentle blast of seaweed and iodine. — 8 years ago

For the love of honeyed peat, my favourite Laphroig. — 9 years ago

Cayuse Vineyards

Bionic Frog Walla Walla Valley Syrah 2012

Four hour decant. Wild wine. Very balanced but all flavors dialed up to 11. Plum, blackberry, hoisin, hoisin beef stock. Finish is incredibly salty and smokey…almost like a drop of laphroig or ardbeg made it’s way into the glass. — 2 years ago

10 Year Cask Strength Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky 1815

Golden, dry, complex. The true Laphroig seaweed character. Tarred rope even. And a cask strength kick. — 6 years ago

The king of Islay whisky. A subtle balance between peat smoke and heather, with an oily mouthfeel that's perfect for after dinner digestion. — 9 years ago

Must try the 2013 Laphroaig Cairdeas if you can find it! Absolutely stunning port aged islay, tastes like grilled strawberries

Specially Selected Peaty Islay Eilean Mor Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Peaty early Father’s Day gift from Mary. Tastes excellent, at a very attractive price. I’m enjoying better than Laphroig. — 5 years ago

Ichiro's Malt MWR Mizunara Wood Reserve Malt Whisky 2004

Bought in Niseko Hokkaido in late January 2018. My first purchase of a Japanese Malt Whisky and I was mightily impressed. No small claim from a McDonald who loves Talisker Laphroig and Lagavulin!!! Compared with the Hibiki I bought duty free this Ichiros Malt was more sooty and tarry but ever so smooth. Reminiscent of Drambuie. Orange Peel and damp straw. Big price difference unfortunately. About $100 in Niseko and about $200 to $250 in Australia. — 6 years ago

Good stuff just keep away from Nick Barry if you want to keep any around the house. Put up there with Laphroig. — 9 years ago
