La Porte Des Vents

Henri Bourgeois

La Porte du Caillou Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Pale lemon color with aromas of stone and tropical fruits with biscuit and floral notes. On the palate flavors of peach, apple and melon with white floral herb notes. Medium+ finish ending with fruit, herb and yeasty notes, lively acidity with slight mineral character. Small production, nice! — 4 days ago

Solid, but just a tad too much Brett for me that ended up more of a distraction rather than beneficial. — 9 months ago

Les 4 Vents

Tavel Rosé Blend 2020

Clear, deep berry red. Shy but inviting nose and medium palate of Montmorency cherry, soft leather, and stony pomegranate. In true Tavel form its decidedly *not* fruit forward. Rather it's a nicely complex deep rosé that's at home anywhere you'd take a lighter red. Steak-topped salads and Thanksgiving dinner are immediate come-to-minds. Drink now through 2030. — 2 years ago

Thanksgiving dinner is a great suggestion! I’ll have to remember this one, as I always struggle to pair with roast turkey.

Domaine des Quatre Vents Fleurie Gamay 1982

Try and try again until a bottle like this appears. There’s a fragility to this wine for sure, but I couldn’t ask for more when the smell of cherry liqueur filled the room as it was uncorked. In the glass, it unfurled with aromas of dried roses, truffles, and a touch of black tea. The colour was kind of like aged Nebbiolo, though leaning towards the ruby red hue. The palate was light-bodied with notes of cherry liqueur and an interesting mineral streak. The wine held on to this state for about an hour before it started losing a bit of life, with madeirised fruit notes appearing. Very pleasant experience. — 4 months ago

Château de la Négly

Porte du Ciel Coteaux du Languedoc Syrah Blend 2015

This region needs to be updated to show that it’s La Clape and not the one listed. Decanted for 30 minutes and opened up very nicely from a closed off and wine to something that had real light, leather and tobacco and maraschino cherry flavors to it. Definitely mellowed quickly and can’t be sitting around waiting but enough structure to support a lot of those meaty and cigarbox flavors. — 10 months ago

La Porte Dorée Cour-Cheverny Romorantin 2020

2020. I believe this is my first Romorantin based wine, so I read through the tasting notes here and was excited to try it. Rich orchard fruit, good acid, and definitely get the oxidized sherry-like notes some mentioned. Paired with snacks while watching the Masters. Not quite their Pimento Cheese Sandwich, but my goat cheese stuffed roasted red peppers and black olives went great with the wine! — 8 months ago
