Wonderful vintage bubbly with nose-smacking yeastiness straw stones funkiness followed by toasty full throttled mouth feel and long complex finish. Surprised Wilson Mabel not the usual bright style. Stood up to every dish at Mom dinner. Impressive. Just saw bought from JL tasting in 2016! — 2 years ago
Fruity, zingy, earthy; light but assertive and with fabulous acidity; aromas of honeycomb so intense I kept smelling other people’s glasses to make sure it was really the wine. Magic. — 6 years ago
JL Bertani Amarone tasting 12/7/17. More brown color in Ruby. Interesting nose with oxidative notes with leather and some aromatics. Secondary and tertiary notes and long finish. Yum. A lovely still with fruit old wine! Great condition. $374. — 6 years ago
It’s always a resounding ‘YES’ for JL Chave!!
That includes this luscious and concentrated Syrah from Saint-Joseph AOC in the Northern Rhône of France.
Domaine Jean-Louis Chave is a benchmark and icon of the Rhône Valley – a family-run operation since 1481 – with an entire range of deliciousness through the Domaine Jean-Louis Chave and JL Chave Selection portfolios.
This wine is deep ruby, trending on purple. It has pronounced aromas and flavors of boysenberry, blueberry, black cherry, cassis, pomegranate, also violet, bacon, sanguine, saddle leather, pipe tobacco, clove, cigar, damp earth, and black peppercorn. Alcohol is high (14.5% ABV) with medium (+) fine-grained and well-integrated tannins, medium (+) acidity, a medium (+) body, and a long, elegant finish.
It has a rustic and savory character with robust dark fruit notes; it’s layered, complex, structured, and age-worthy, benefitting from decanting. Still, it’s tasting wonderfully now.
Cheers to JL Chave and treasures of the Rhône!! — a month ago

JL tasting Portugal Brira interior 2/20/18. $19. 25% each Cab Syrah petit verdot TN. Intestinal style but nose is balanced. Done heat. 14.5 ABV. Package is soft and balanced with sense of fruit sweetness and good length. Polished and silky. Good value. — 6 years ago
54/27/19 blend of petite sirah, petit verdot and teroldego. Dense purple red. Floral, blueberry and blackberry aromas, blackberry jam, and black pepper finish. Some seed tannins, decant. After two hours, skin tannins get grippy, yet varietal flavors remain well expressed; you can taste the petite Sirah and petit Verdot in there, though I really am not familiar with teroldelgo as a varietal. Worth drinking just to see the future of world wines as growers continue to shift to new varieties that grow and express well with global warming — 3 months ago
