I miss ....... in one sip the taste of time. The taste of connection....... I miss. One breath, one coat, one thought ......time controls. Hostage plum stains the lip. I miss..... the note of time, warm drips the earthquake of cavernous chocolate..... I miss. Tongue hugged in berry, weighted in hesitation. Thoughts arrested in mixed spice....I miss. Beautiful pour- time rich....I miss. Cheers! — 6 years ago
We had great expectations for this wine. Sadly, those expectations were not realized.
On the nose, we detected iron, tart cherries and redcurrants.
On the palette, it lacks the typical opulence we have come to expect from this producer. No plush, velvety texture. Mild root vegetables and burnt oak comes to mind. We are of the view that these grapes did not reach full maturity. Good acid structure, but the wine lacks cohesion. A good example, but not great.
We paid a king's ransom for this and Plumpjack still have our hostage. sniff... — 8 years ago
LC 13. Whoa., glad I had with food. Mouth puckering acidity that holds the lovely ripe strawberry & cherry fruit hostage. The fruit comes across as somewhat delicate but I have to believe the acid is holding the fruit in a tight headlock. — 2 years ago
Last week was a combo of 4th Friday and Open That Bottle Night on back to back nights. Needless to say, the lineup between both days was full of heavy hitters, so I’m only posting standout bottles.
Yes, that is a 3L of ‘87 Dunn Howell in a gorgeous etched bottle. I think the bottle may have outshone the wine, and that was no easy feat! Compared to the ‘88 I opened a year and a half ago, the vintage and larger format here have kept time hostage as this has aged beautifully. Dusty aromatics of brambly fruits, cassis, currant, graphite, fig, leather and even some baking spices remained. The profile on the palate is warm and soft...ripe baked blackberries, peppercorn, old graham cracker and cedar shavings. Integrated at this stage, but this powered through 5+hrs in bottle and in decanter with zero drop off. Still sporting Dunn’s classic Howell power. — 4 years ago

Strong nose of red fruit, body tannic with plenty if fruit still held hostage by substantial tannins — 3 years ago
Yes, another Napa cab.
My wife has taken me as a hostage. But my ransom isn’t too much, hence the Ramey tonight. And she’s not even here to blame for my choice.
The nose presents nice oak treatment, along with spice box. Palate shows ripe, fresh fruits, medium tannins, and moderate acidity. Great extraction, without being overly done. This is a well moderated example of the varietal.

2012 Il Brigante from Castello di Amorosa is an spin on zin. I mean to say it is phenomenal! Spicy and full flavor. Loads of black cherry and blackberry at first then followed by a tangy (not bitter) blast of perfection in a glass. The spice and vanilla take the tongue hostage and finish it off it a moderately dry oak and earthy ending. My God this is good wine. And affordable! Look out San Antonio winery, I have a new favorite!!!! Castello di Amorosa baby!!!!!!!!! — 6 years ago
If I'm dreaming don't wake me. Drinking wine in Sicily is pure enjoyment! Is it the star lit sky, the beautiful people, the quaint court yard, the rhythm of the evening or the wine? I'm held hostage, and I don't want to escape! The seamlessness in which the food interplays with the wine is beyond beautiful. Cherry, over ripe strawberry and mounds of good earth. But what gets me is the texture and acidity. Mount Etna has shown its uniqueness! As Burgundy prices skyrocket, I increasingly turn to Nerello Mascalase ! — 8 years ago

I agree with @Jeff Shapiro, very impressed with this IPA which jumped from my glass with urgency and bright citrus notes. 8.5 abv took me hostage for a while… — 2 years ago
