Consumed young. Ripe strawberries and flint on the nose. Plums, fresh cut hay, raspberry and a hint of charcoal on the front. Light butterscotch and rhubarb on the front on the finish. Not a jammy wine. — 4 years ago

Cigars and ripe red cherries on the nose. Red apples from the Wizard of Oz trees and smoked bing cherry on the palate. Click your heels, Toto. We’re not in Kansas anymore. Grab your broomstick and take flight with this delightful berry manifestation. Or take shelter. This berry hurricane is headed straight for your mouth. — 8 years ago
Dusty nose. First sip runs fruity but with a bold chop of earth. Draw shows textures of ripe tree fruit with some wood. This is full flavor with an elegance to it. Highly recommend. — 8 years ago
This a really nice wine! I drink each vintage and it's fairly consistent. I paired this Vermentino with an angel hair pasta, bathed in an infused truffle cream and mushroom sauce. All of a sudden my humble California abode felt like I was in Sardinia, Italia! Wine can do that! Isn't that why we love it? BEST with food, warm weather and friendships. Waxing poetic is easy after a few glasses of this beauty. And it's a value play! — 9 years ago
Dog Point Vineyard combines experience of Ivan and Margaret Sutherland & James and Wendy Healy. Ivan and James met while working at Cloudy Bay Vineyards. Light straw with typical SB aromas adding a touch of floral mineral notes. On the palate flavors of melon and grapefruit with citrus and honeysuckle notes, generous acidity, great mouthfeel with long finish ending with a salty spice character. Exceptional wine! — 10 months ago
Smooth with hints of cranberry, Peruvian chocolate, and stone fruit for a well rounded balance. It’s like stepping on smooth stones of a Japanese bathhouse that massage your feet into tranquility. Pair with pets for a beautiful mixed breed dog from a rescue that is just happy to be with you. — 5 years ago

Out of the 4 wines opened at The Bird, this one edged out the Numanthia 12 by a hair. Quite similar profiles IMO. This Walla Walla Syrah was quite enjoyable with dark black fruit on the front. Consistent with the 2015 I tasted a bit ago but IMO, this one had a bit more of a smoked beef flavor in the middle that the dark sweet and still youthful fruit gave way. Chose this as the "food" wine since most chose the Bird Burger (a grass fed beef burger)....it went rather well. Popular with the crowd of novices and winos, the smoky finish was very complementary. Maybe I might acquire a few of these WA Syrahs afterall to have for these purposes....(not a word, @Shay A .... 😆) — 8 years ago

First thing I noticed, oddly, is that it created a airy, clearing sensation through my sinuses. It also lingers on the tongue, nettles, white mushroom, fern compost. Drinking it, I get baked red fruit (not jammy), sulfites, and maybe bay leaf. Plan to pet a Bracco Italiano (one of the oldest pointing dog breeds) while drinking. — 4 years ago
Dark bright deep purple. Cassis, saddle leather, touch of olive, dark ripe black fruit (plum, cherry, berry). Nice balance with noticeable acidity and just a touch of soft round tannin. I like the cab.franc/Merlot weight much better than Cabernet Sauvignon, Very good companion for frigid Chicsgo night with filets, double stuffed bakers, and balsamic sautéed zucchini. — 5 years ago
Nice, ripe, modern delicious Barolo. Dang. This one has me leaning from the traditional. This wine is ready from cork pop, but was much better after 2 hrs of bottle decanting and probably has another 7 years left. Nose of herbs, soil, mushroom, cola, funeral flowers. Entry of flowers, raspberry cola, nice acidity and just a hair departed from full bodied. Complex. Beautiful wine. Finishes with some astringency and youthful oak tannin so this one has a while left. Tobacco, herb, soil. Dang. If you have these, now is the time. — 6 years ago
What a wild wine. Wet dog on the nose that blew off pretty quick. Certainly oxidative. Mostly Garnacha with Tempranillo and Mazuelo. Red fruit accompanied with high acid. One of a kind. — 7 years ago
First time I have had anything from Haywire. Small.production facility well hidden off the main hwy in Summerland. Interesting facility with the philosophy of letting the fermentation and the wine speaks for itself. No oak used in their cellars but concrete barrels and clay. Juicy, aromatic..unlike most pinots I have had. Worth a try and dog friendly🐶😄 — 8 years ago

Very sweet, has notes of honey and berries. — 8 years ago

The Pretentious Gentleman
This Cab is particularly nice. Sweet upfront, tapering to dryness with lots of character. Would purchase again. — 9 months ago
