If a wine does not meet your (high) expectations, is it a disappointment?? 🤔. Yeah, everything is relative. This six year old Gran Malbec was still super tight. Sharp, spicy oak tannins (lots of new French oak?) kept anything possibly underneath totally hidden. Although some greener notes came through early on and again later after about 2-3 hours of opening. So, yeah. Not balanced, very intense, limited lingering and single note. Agung will help for sure but not confident if this wine will ever fully shine. But don’t be down on Pulenta. Fantastic winery. We will visit this fall (their Spring) as Spoken Wines. Talking about Spoken Wines, have you seen our latest video story of Hartenberg?? And their incredible commitment to regenerative viticulture, lead by… cows!! Beautifully explained and demonstrated right in front of you by Wilhelm Joubert, the viticulturist. Check it out. And don’t miss the surprise at the end 😁. www.spokenwines.com — 4 months ago
Quite deep ruby and , garnet terracotta rim. Quite spicy nose , slightly green touches , mix of red and dark fruit . On the palate fills out quite well , good acidity , slightly gritty tannins still with mineral , tobacco notes on the finish . Ok reasonable length . This comes across a bit greener than I remember it , so not sure how representative this bottle is , fine to drink now and over the next 10 years . 91
Second bottle medium deep ruby with garnet rim . Took a bit of time to open up , but very good definition , red and dark fruits, truffle , undergrowth, cigar box and grafite. On the palate quite charming sweet red fruits, red plum, cassis , dried spices, undergrowth , elegant for las cases , grafite and tobacco stained finish . Well balanced acidity and quite gritty but ripe tannin . This is lovely now with time in the decanter and over the next 10 -15 years . Completely different from first bottle . — a year ago
Part of a Chateau Mouton Rothschild vertical from 1988-1990. The 1988 shows great color and is quite charming with notes of cassis, tobacco, leather some bell pepper and a cinnamon bark sort of thing on the nose. Structure remains firm and this was a little greener than the ‘89 and ‘90. There is no risk of this falling off anytime soon; probably good through 2038. — 2 months ago
Compared to 2001; leafier, mintier, greener. Prunier, figgier, meatier. Soy sauce, mushroom, forest floor, bacon fat (could be just less Brett than 2001), pencil shavings. — a year ago
The 2021 Les Romains is a pure, clean and focused style. There's a delicate flint note on the nose and a precise line of acidity and push-pull texture on the palate. It's a firm style that speaks of its place - on the flinty side of Sancerre's fault line. There are no pretty florals here like you'd find on the chalk soils of Sancerre but a tension alongside greener-edged fruit. This is an assertive, vertical wine but not as nuanced. In time, it will improve, retaining brightness, unlike many wines found on the limestone, which are more immediately charming. (Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, July 2023) — a year ago
Blackberry but some greener notes. Floral with meaty notes nice acidity in mouth good structure offering long finish — 3 months ago
Followed this wine across three days, and I’d say it was an excellent example of Roseneck. Poured out with a mostly bright green-yellow colour, with touches of light golden hue on some angles in the light.
On day 1, it had aromas of flint, sea spray, apples, fresh honey, and a touch of petrol. Palpable minerality on the palate, almost painfully so. Not the weightiest, but it sure had intensity. Notable sparkly acidity.
On day 2, I had an 08’ Schlossberg to compare with and this was clearly the more filigreed of the two. The 09’ Roseneck was lighter, more mineral, and less complex. It felt greener even - perhaps it was picked earlier in light of the warm vintage. Comparison aside, the nose evolved a little from day 1, with the petrol hints disappearing altogether, the honey note becoming more like honey candy instead of fresh honey, and the appearance of white florals. The palate was again sparkly, with a palate-staining minerality.
I felt day 3 was the best showing of the 09’ Roseneck, with the fruit and floral notes taking a back seat, and the salinity just dominating. Notably, it looked fresher than the 08’ Schlossberg on this day. The palate was just all about that sea spray. The palate was wild - tasted a lot like salted limes doused with fresh honey. The finish was super mineral with hints of lime zest and green apples. Just pure energy!
I’ve seen quite a number of tasting notes on CL noting that the 09’ Roseneck’s possibly close to its peak but I’m inclined to believe otherwise. — 5 months ago

Absolute favorite. A wonderfully crafted wine perfect for those summer days spent picnicking in pastures of wildflowers or on the lake, the aromatics of this Fleur Sauvage brings notes of star fruit, orange blossoms, and opens up to a warm note of vanilla bean. Flavors of papaya, apricot, and golden apples are balanced with subtle notes of vanilla custard.
