Pretty pink-ruby color, legs 8/10. Smells like jam, cherries and raspberries. Soft, sweet supple cab, not much tannin, goes down easy. A chill, laid back wine. If wine was the sweet girl next door who grew up to be a baddie, this is that wine. Really like this one! — 16 days ago
Lots of fun bottles were popped at Al’s hosting this past weekend for his birthday celebration. All were served blind. 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 6 reds and 1 dessert wine.
I’ve now had this twice in the last month. Lucky me. First time was at the Billecart tasting, and they spoke very highly of this (as they should). This was served a little warmer than I enjoy my champagnes so it was hard to enjoy the crispness or the mousse, but there was a gorgeous layer of bright yet restrained red fruits like rhubarb and strawberry cream. Even some kiwi and dragon fruit. Hardly any yeast. But even at a warmer temp, this stayed in balance. I called this mid 2000s rosé champagne and guessed it was the Billecart Cuvee Elizabeth, but I had some help from others as we brainstormed. Partial credit! — 23 days ago

It’s a little birthday pre-celebration for the birthday girl before we head north tomorrow for a big Bordeaux tasting and dinner to celebrate.
That’s her enjoying the afternoon sun in the D&S Lounge on her day off. Happy Birthday Sofia! Love you.
As for the Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve, it never disappoints.
The palate shows beautiful mousse, green & golden apple, pineapple juice, some pear, a touch of cider, lemon & lime zest, kiwi, green melon, notes of caramel, baguette crust, mixed greens, saline, sea fossils & spray, grainy, grey volcanic minerals, low intensity white spice, thick, powdery chalkiness, spring flowers, jasmine, soft, crisp acidity and a well balanced & polished finish.

Birthday girl, Magnolia. Great celebration with close friends today. Kistler helped us push the boat out. Notes of caramel and honey which flow through to the palate. Acid is completely integrated. Drink now.
Many happy returns to our besty, Mags! 😍

This blend has a unique story... out of the deadly Caribbean waters of the 17th century comes the true story of Jacquottie Delahaye, an orphan driven to piracy as a tender girl. Later, to evade the law, faked her own death, but upon being discovered earned her treacherous moniker “Back from the Dead Red” stirring fear into the hearts of any who saw her fiery red hair at the helm. As deadly as she was beautiful her legend continues to inspire many a buccaneer!
