Scarpa (Antica Casa Vinicola Scarpa)

Tettimorra Barolo Nebbiolo 2010

Absolutely a knockout. Last had almost 2 years ago and the time has been good. Decanted 1.5 hours, still fairly primary - would be a delicious one to age more, but so it goes. Aromatically incredible. So deep on the palate with that perfect refreshing note on the finish. Excellent pairing with fennel rubbed roast chicken, mushrooms cooked in the chicken fat, and oven fries with a tarragon aioli. — 3 years ago

Château Pontet-Canet

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

On to the 2012 Pontet-Canet from Paulliac paired with grilled lamb chops and made from scratch boulonese sauce. Fantastic. The wine expressed it selves very well after a good hour and half of decanting at about 60 F. The earthy umami flavors of the food propelled the wine above its weight. But the absolute best ever tasting quartered, seasoned potato wedges/fries from our guests brought the wine into outer orbit. The duck fat tasting fries revealed herbaceous floral notes on the mid palet and created a soothing long finish. With smooth fine grained tannins. — 4 years ago

Hobo Wine Company

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Was wondering if my tastes moved away from this in the last 18 months, but I’m impressed once again with my last bottle of this 2016. I may be repeating myself, but this brings out much of the greatness of CA Cab Sauv (dark fruit, spice, graphite, cedar, incense) without the ponderous new oak attack and flabby extraction. High acid CS, great with food, absolutely ridiculous at $20. Will be on the lookout for more. Enjoyed with homemade burgers and fries. — 7 years ago

Château Lafleur

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1995

Beautiful wine that I have never tried before. Still very lively for being 31 years old with a strong tannic backbone. Drunk blind I was convinced this was a Barolo 🤦...didnt cover myself in glory with that guess! Served with steak, bernaise and french fries — 6 months ago

Manzanilla Deliciosa En Rama Saca de Primavera Palomino Fino

I smell apricots, honeysuckle and a touch of a wood refinishing shop where an old man has been rubbing turpentine onto ancient woods. The smell of this Manzanilla makes my mouth water and I didn't want to take my nose out of the glass.
On first taste it has a bit of an 'Uh oh what have so gotten myself into' kick in the pants of your pallete. As the sherry warms in your mouth let it explore of the crevices and you will find flavors in corners of your mouth that I you have not encountered before in any bottle of non fortified white wine.
The freshness of this when served chilled and the amazingly long aftertaste make it one of the few wines that I prefer to drink on their own but it pairs great with simple salty food like premium organic fries tossed sea salt!
A steal at $16 for a half bottle at Little Death. (I've paid $13 for a three ounce pour of this at a tapas joint)

Oak Farm Vineyards

Lodi Barbera 2017

This is an interesting red wine from California. Showing tangy red and black fruits, vanilla, light wood, spices, dark chocolates, tobacco leaf, herbs, earth and peppercorn.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Nice length on the finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.

Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up (30 minutes).

This Barbera is easy drinking with a strong nose and a soft mouthfeel.

Fruit forward and balanced. Would be interesting to taste this in 3 years.

I've had it before, and this time I gave it a light chill. A nice porch wine, and very tasty.

At this point, the alcohol is nicely integrated, although pretty high, so watch out as it is very easy to drink.

I paired it with a burger and fries.

15% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

$25.
