Jacob Franklin

Mon Chou #6 Camusi Vineyard Red Blend 2015

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two days and consistent throughout. The 2015 pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core and some slight rim variation. Medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing and beginning to show, some secondary characteristics with a combination of tart, ripe and desiccated, black and red fruits: brambles, cassis, green bell pepper, pipe tobacco, leather, cocoa, organic earth and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The texture is that of a velvet glove. The finish is long and satisfying. Years ago, I cut my teeth on the wines of Ray and Nancy Coursen, especially their Elyse label while their Jacob Franklin label remained elusive to me. It’s clear there is similar DNA. This is a delicious, giving wine that is squarely in its drinking window. Drink now through 2030. — 6 months ago

@Jay Kline Very much enjoyed the JF petite sirah’s. As you would expect big wines but they had balance and complexity. Drank them way to early 🥺

@Ira Schwartz while I can’t speak for the JF Petite Sirah’s, I drank a ton of the Elyse PS’s and agree: big but balanced and beautiful. Age-worthy too.

Big Squeeze Margaret River Shiraz 2014

Smooth, slightly sweet start. Green/spicy end notes, a bit stronger than I'd prefer, but good for smaller sips — 6 years ago

Spring Street Merlot 2016

If anyone wants a perfect example of a Cali merlot, give them this. Big blue fruit with some pine and cedar. It’s not subtle, but it’s good. If you’re a Merlot lover, get this. — 2 years ago

Hoffman Lane Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Another winespies purchase that has proven to be a good purchase. Strong spice, blackberry and slight cherry, cinnamon, and more. Medium tannins. A 7 year old wine that likely could age another 5 - 10 years. — 4 years ago

Classic Margaret River Cabernet-Merlot Blend 2016

Complexity of dark fruit along with red currant berries and underneath side of tobacco leaf herb-leaf and cigar all together balances and deep on palate with yet soft structure at finishings 🤵🏼

Fainting Goat Red Blend 2019

Just as delicious as I remember it. Can distinctly taste the black cherry. It is delightful to taste the actual description of the wine. Definitely on the sweeter side. — 4 years ago
