Duemani

Altrovino Toscana IGT Merlot Cabernet Franc 2018

O wow. This is something!
A Merlot/ Cab Franc blend from halfway between Pisa and Piombino.
Vinified in cement & clay, aged in wood., biodynamic.
Very, very Bordeaux’esque. Very St. Emilion.
Black currants, plums, black currant leaf & a touch of dark cherries. Sweet & plush yet savoury. With a touch of allspice, black pepper, bay leaf, a hint of roast. Fresh, juicy.
Amazing precision on the palate, plush yet juicy, rich yet vibrant. I love the super fine, polished tannins. And the balamce between black currant freshness and savoury, spicy, earthy character.
Complex yet so lovely & drinkable.
Unexpectedly, this is brilliant stuff!

A vanilla bomb! Vanilla, cedar, and black fruit dominant. The tannins are silky smooth. Can drink now or age a bit more. — 4 months ago

Harlan Estate

Napa Valley Proprietary Red Blend 2018

2018 vintage. Explosive but overtly chunky vs deeply grippy. Tasted after being opened approx 30 mins. Needed 7-10 hours of serious airing or a dedicated, triple-decant + air + time. Maybe gets to 9.6 with all that? Body medium-heavy w/o being syrupy. — a year ago

Tenuta San Leonardo

Terre di San Leonardo Vigneti delle Dolomiti Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2016

A darker, richer Bordeaux blend, savoury and w/o too much plump & plush.
Black currants & dark plums, with a touch of cedar wood, cassis and a pinch of herbs.
Beautifully poised & balanced, pure fruit, juicy acidity, polished, finely grained, dust like tannins. Good length & character.
And brilliant value, too. Drinking very nicely right now.

Nuits d'Ivresse Bourgueil Cabernet Franc 2018

Fresh, pure, sappy. Graphite & crushed dark rock, green peppers, cedar wood, violets, a hint of roast, all on a bed of juicy dark plums and sweet dark cherries. Seductive with interesting little details.
On the palate this is just so pure, juicy, seems light yet there’s depth.
Beautifully polished tannins with a hint of (good) greenness, a mineral backbone, great balance. There’s flow here, brilliant drinkability.
Not filtered or fined & w/o SO2. Biodynamic.
Delicious stuff!

Tapanappa

Wratton Bully Whalebone Vineyard Merlot Cabernet Franc 2008

Warm vintage, soft ripe fruit. Presents as young but very approachable with soft tannins, with liquorice and dark fruit prominent and tannins sitting in the background. An intriguing contrast to the Man O’ War blend alongside it. Very easy to enjoy but perhaps some element missing at this stage. — 4 years ago
