Flor De Cana

Coto de Gomariz

The Flower and the Bee (La Flor y la Abeja) Treixadura 2019

Bright golden color. Aromas of tropical fruits, white flowers and sea spray. The palate leans more toward pear and unripe peach with a pleasant herbal note on the finish. Mouth filling texture, medium body and crisp acidity. There is a bit of weight (pleasant) but it’s not over the top. Still fresh (opened almost five years past the vintage date) and quite fruit forward. So interesting! — 9 days ago

Bodegas Forcada

Flor de Baco Crianza Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2016

NOSE: minerals and bitter chocolate. Old books. Dried fruit - orange peel. Some of the typical Rioja spices (clove etc).

TASTE: tastes just as it smells, plus more earth and vegetables. A little austere (thin?) - but it’s good Rioja. 90.

La Caña

Rías Baixas Albariño

A wine from Jorge Ordóñez and his winemaking team. Pale lemon with crisp stone fruit and citrus aromas. On the palate apple, pear and melon flavors with lemon citrus, consistent offering from La Cana. Medium finish ending with fruit, spice and mineral tang. Nice value. — 4 months ago

Equipo Navazos

Navazos-Niepoort Vino Blanco Palomino Fino 2020

Unfortified, aged under flor single vintage and single vineyard Palomino Fino.
Closer to Jura in character than a ‘usual’ solera aged Fino.
Fresh, vibrant, racy. Clearly oxidative with yeasty & chalky notes, dried herbs but also some shy pear. And loads of salt!
On the palate this is crisp, fresh, bone dry and mineral. Powerful yet with nice freshness & balance. Chalky, salty, with some pears wrapped in bacon, olive brine and whiff of chamomile in the long finish.
I was not convinced upon opening and on day 1. The day after this is very, very drinkable. Bring on the tapas!

Dominio de Pingus

Flor de Pingus Ribera del Duero Tempranillo 2011

[Tasted on November 25, 2023 at Home with Rachel]

2011 was a warm vintage and the wine is bottled at 15.5% ABV. Inky color. Ripe blackberry, plum and dark cherry fruit, with violet, minerality, smoke, clove and leather. Full bodied and juicy.
