Dark ruby core with a garnet/orange rim. Aromas of tobacco, forest floor, leather and ripe red and black fruit. Flavors of mushrooms, cranberry, black cherry and blackberry fruit on the palate with additional hints of cocoa powder and baking spices. Long, silky and smoky finish with extremely gentle tannins. This wine is medium dark garnet in the glass. The nose has a good supply of cherry and raspberry notes, dusted up with earth, tar and anise. The palate has a bit of licorice on it, but mainly serves as a showcase for the red fruit. There are some spicy elements, too. White pepper, nutmeg, and a very light clove sense brighten up the fruit. Tannic structure is firm and acidity refreshing. I had mine with a slow cooker red wine short rib dish, and the pairing was sublime. — 7 months ago
Excellent value second press valpolicella wine. Smooth dark fruits and fig with soft holiday spices. Well balanced. Better than some Amarone I’ve tasted at a portion of the price. Not spectacular like the better Amarone but a great everyday selection from the region. — 4 months ago
