Drunk Bear

Stonestreet Estate Vineyards

Bear Point Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Decadent. 🫐 Blueberry. Creamy. This is spectacular. It would be near top of my scale if it had a little more body--its medium plus. But the nose and palate are quite nice with this ribeye.

Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

This is, excuse me, a damn fine bottle of wine.

Worn leather, cigar smoke, and vanilla on the nose. Intense palate of overripe blackberry and cassis. Powerful but well integrated oak. Very long, complex finish.

Drank while watching a fan edit of Fire Walk With Me. Needs a solid decant.

Consumed young. Ripe strawberries and flint on the nose. Plums, fresh cut hay, raspberry and a hint of charcoal on the front. Light butterscotch and rhubarb on the front on the finish. Not a jammy wine. β€” 4 years ago

The Bear Premier Series Okanagan Valley Red Blend 2016

Phenomenal. Every other year I open one of these bottles from 2016 and the evolution keeps impressing me. On the nose, has a character of rainy ancient west coast forest. On the palate, Blackberry, blueberry, with hints of dark cherry. Blended perfectly with a rich, aged, leather. Hints of cedar wood, slightly smoked. Perfectly balanced. Only going to keep getting better over the next few years. β€” 4 years ago

The Bear Red Wine 2022

2022. Vineyard: Fenaughty & Lightner
Varietal: Counoise, Cinsault, MourvΓ©dre, Grenache, Terret Noir. Light body, but lots of flavor. No funk, minimal tannins and enough acidity to pair great with sausage pasta and bagna cauda garlic bread.

ChΓ’teau Pontet-Canet

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1999

Deep ruby , garnet thinner rim . Quite deep fruits again . Spicy fruit darker in profile than the 1998 . But in style quite similar to the 1998, not the austerity or classic profile of the 1995 or 1996. Redder lighter fruits again , touch of spice and tobacco. A bit more stuffing than the 1998 , bit more tannin noticeable, with good acidity . This is better balanced than the preceding wine , has more complexity with quite good length on the slightly saline tinged finish. Certainly aromatically the youngest wine in the tasting , this can be drunk now though will improve over the 5 years perhaps and last well a further 5-10. β€” 3 years ago

Bass Phillip

Crown Prince Gippsland Pinot Noir 2018

This is Bass Phillip’s entry level CuvΓ©e of about 5 different CuvΓ©es. Pale Ruby with cloudiness from BP’s policy of bottling unfiltered. Jujube confectionery notes with savoury cherry and forest floor. Light to medium weight palate, made to be drunk young. The fruit for this wine comes from the major part of the Leongatha vineyard (where the Estate, Premium and Reserve Pinots come from). Even though this is a different vintage to previous notes on Delectable for Crown Prince the tasting notes are similar. β€” 5 years ago

ChΓ’teau LΓ©oville PoyferrΓ©

Saint Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1986

Medium deep ruby garnet with wide garnet rim . Open and classic on the nose with tobacco , grafite , herbal , mint , seaweed and some mixed summer fruits . On the palate this is quite fresh and slightly lean in style , quite rustic , bitty tannins and a herbal touch. Mixed summer fruits on the mid palate and a reasonable earthy tobacco tinged finish . Best drunk now and over the next few years on the basis of this bottle . β€” 5 months ago

Materium Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

2018 Materium comes from the Weitz Vineyard in Oakville and is all Cabernet Sauvignon brought up in mostly new barrels. It's a very different wine than the Amoenus release and has more elegant, seamless aromas and flavors of crème de cassis, black raspberries, tobacco leaf, flowery incense, and sandalwood. ChÒteau Margaux-like in its elegance and complexity, this brilliant wine has loads of sweet fruit, flawless integration of its tannins and acidity, flawless balance, and just a heavenly overall profile that I wish every reader could taste. This extraordinary effort can be drunk today or cellared for 30 years or more. — 5 years ago
