In 1865, Jean-Marie Mommessin founded winery. In 1889, Mommessin acquired La Grange Saint-Pierre, ancient buildings in Macon, originally belonged to Abbey of Cluny. Its key, the Key of St. Peter, became famous house emblem. Ruby color with aromas of dark berry fruit with notes of oak and floral. On the palate flavors of blackberry and currants with oak, floral, spice and earthy notes. Fine tannins, medium+ finish ending with fruit, oak and mineral character. — a year ago
Gift from a friend to our shop staff. One of my favorite all time wines and he had no idea other then he loves it too. A field blend of PN, Gamay and Chard. Made like the monks of Cluny did in 910 AD. Hence the name. Rich fruit, complex and well balanced. Just fun to drink and drink, you get the picture. — 4 years ago
Peaking right now. Floral, elegant, herbal, and still fresh with no evidence of Brett. Subtle strawberries on the finish. Exceptionally well made with a strong sense of place. — 6 years ago
Pinot Noir from older vines from a tiny parcel in the Cluny hills, in the northwest of the Mâconnais. Biodynamic farming. Whole-cluster. Minimal intervention. Aged for 10 months in used oak barrels. Lively nose. Juicy red fruit (Strawberry, strawberry jam, raspberry) some white pepper and earthy notes. Noticeable tannins, would benefit from some time in cellar. — 3 years ago
Opulent Chardonnay from a small (0.9 hectare) plot on limestone soils within the Clos des Avoueries - a vineyard in Cruzille that up until they French Revolution belonged to the monks of nearby Cluny. Quite intense nose with aromas of white flowers, citrus, lemon custard and peach yogurt. Full-bodied, round, smooth on the palate, with good freshness and acidity. Flavors of lemon zest, minerals — 3 years ago
Top nebbiolo from Ghemme, Piedmont, Italy. Maybe still young, so intense. What a colour!! — 5 years ago
Crazy - 1/3 pn, 1/3 gamay, 1/3 chard made in style of cluny monks. Red fruit & minerality - yum! — 10 years ago

Tried side by side. Tasting these since 2009. These are now classic wines. The vineyards are very close to the tree line of the western slope of the black forest in Baden. Who knows what these clones are? May be the Cluny Monks brought them up from France. These are world class Grand Cru level Pinots and are stupid underpriced. With age they turn into incredible beauties which easily match GranCru Burghs. Will be a 10 in 5 years from now. The Muschelkalk is always lighter in color ethereal and elegant. Black forest thyme, touch crushed marble, wild sour raspberry, hint of black forest morello cherries, cranberry, Mexican lime, green moos. This needs to uncoil over night to really get the potential of this. Quite acidic. 12.5%. A stellar vintage. And sleeping beauty. I would say not approachable for a novice at this point. Lucky for me my neighbors get it. Revisit in 2031. — 10 months ago
