solid wine for steak — 4 months ago
Julien Fayard makes the Covert. He worked with Philippe Melka for yrs before going out on his own. Julien also makes the Nicholson Jones wines.
I went to taste’s the Nicolson Jones wines but they set up the coverts for me. My host said they upgraded me.
The Covert wines are spendy. North of $250 at the winery. This is my first experience having them.
Having said that, most of the 23 Napa reds show amazingly beautiful fruit. This had that. These are really soft and nicely layered but they just didn’t stand up-out at their price point. For me, just not compelling. — 7 months ago
Very nice but just starting to feel its age. — 2 years ago
Covert smooth more Pinot like — 8 years ago
Julien Fayard, winemaker for Covert Estate, Azur, Taplin Cellars, Matthew Wallace and more, stopped by Fort Worth tonight to showcase a few different wines. A pleasure to meet and share wines with!
This was almost a clone of the Terra 9, but every facet was just turned up a notch. The mid-palate showed more complexity of fruits and spice. Huge mix of fresh raspberries, blackberries, cassis and nutmeg. Needs a 2+hr decant. — 8 years ago

Without a doubt a nod to Julien’s upbringing. Very Provençal with little acid, salmon colored in the glass. Strawberry, peach and stone driven on the palate. — 8 years ago
2023 vintage. From THAT plot 22.5 acres large that adjoins two, Grand Cru, vineyards. Last tasted 2.27.26 (9.3). Medium body. Some covert white pepper now in the nose. Originally picked up two cases for the resto. Realized my mistake and picked up the last case available. So about that last meal? Gotta be Puligny and Dover Sole, or Scallops, with a few capers and beurre blanc sauce. Underselling this a little bit as it's not premmie cru bleep but feel free to throw this into a blind, 2023 P-M tasting and it will amaze. This is displaying the old familiar subtleties you used to know so well. All I really wanna know is there one sweet Puligny that can make me smile. Oh yeah. With apologies to Sir Rod. 4.5.26. — 3 months ago
@Delectable This is the Covert 337/191.

A little apricot, sweet without being sweet, very drinkable all by itself — 7 years ago

The nose on this alone had me sold. Quintessential Stag’s Leap with the deep espresso, dark chocolate, dusty aromas. Definitely some sweetness on the nose...graham cracker, smoked blueberries, and Mexican vanilla. The palate, from start to finish, is just a powerhouse of blue and black fruits mixed with baking spices, cocoa dusted dates and plum. I’d have no problem pop and pouring this. — 8 years ago

This was slightly better & showed a bit more but rounding up to 94. Definitely, shows the herbal sage on the nose. — 7 months ago
I went to Covert to taste the Nicholas Jones Sleeping Lady. I have two vintages (14 & 16) in my collection but have never had one. I bought on recommendation from @Paul T HB.
I had hoped to try their 2023 but they are still tasting their 2019. Per my host, they hold back their Sleeping Lady awhile longer to age further in bottle.
This 2019 was the best in the tasting. It demonstrated to me that I could open my 14 or 16 or continue to hold awhile longer.
I would say that the Nicholas Jones demonstrate more depth & character over the Covert. — 7 months ago

Caveat being price,, my scores would be lower if I had paid release. But I still enjoy most bottles from this vineyard but at $125.00 or less.Solid mouth feel- dark berries- continued to open up as dinner progressed - very well done - could rest for a number of years — 6 years ago
More Petite Sirah than Pinot in style and taste profile but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Grainy tannins, black olive, smoke infused red fruits. Not at the mountain top where his Syrah and Grenache are perched but still very compelling and enjoyable to those who toss aside their pre-conceptions of what PN “should” taste like. — 8 years ago

I enjoyed tasting this and the Taplin Reserve side by side. Both wines are more red and black fruit driven. The Terra 9 wins the QPR award. Lots of cherries, black cherry, dark chocolate, blackberries and mocha. This could be pop and pour, but is best with 30mins-1hr of air. — 8 years ago

2024 vintage. Ah yes...the "troublesome" 2024 vintage. Showing well now with light-medium/medium body and a good mix of usual suspect flavors and covert ones. The stylistically pleasing "acidity there if you want it." Picked up two cases. The Paul Pernot stuff usually runs slightly less than the majority of other applicable white Burgs. 6.3.26. — a month ago
