Bought at the winery in 2021 just as things started to lift for COVID, and we brought our dog Murph along. This has sat for a bit, with three sediment coating the inside of the bottle, and is starting to show some age, with a pale red, somewhat fig color, with amber notes and bricking to the edges. The nose is tart, with more hints of fig, iron/blood, and a little iodine, with some softer fig newton and dark plum notes to finish. The palate is still acidic, with a little smoke or charcoal, super ripe strawberries, star anise, grapefruit, butterscotch, some iodine or apple cider vinegar, grandma’s fruit chew gummies, some iron and age elements of amber and velvet present at the finish. Founded 1972, Tom & Sally Jordan, from CO, went to CA’s wine country & produced inaugural vintage in 1976. A Fav of mine with a steak, and the ‘17 hits the mark! Blend of mostly Cab Sauv with Merlot, Petit Verdot & Malbec. Deep Ruby with aromas of red fruit, floral & spice. On the palate flavors of cherry, blackberry and fig with oak, sweet spice, leather & cacao notes. Rich tannins, well balanced and integrated with fruit & oak. Very Nice! — 2 years ago

Visiting Fredericksburg TX for a few days. This is TX hill country and has a big winery community. Never tried any TX wines before but found a few surprises here. We tasted at Becker earlier today but not this wine. $30 on the restaurant wine list. Becker wasn’t our favorite stop but it is the only local winery represented on their list. Overall local wines seemed overpriced compared to CA wines. Just realized we had an older vintage (2018) on our last trip from Houston to Anaheim. It’s interesting that most of the grapes used in the local wines come from Lubbock (panhandle) area. Don’t know where these grapes came from, or what varietals are present. — 3 years ago
