This lovely Syrah from Brezeme was made from virtually abandoned super old vineyards, with Eric Texier essentially first saving the old grapevines and then making great under-the radar French Syrah from these super old vines (it always helps that Eric is as nice a guy as you’ll ever meet)!! These wines are unfiltered, with simply incredible acidity, low ABV (12.5 to 13%), classic black olive, savoury, faint smoky aromas as well, still very fresh and crisp, lingering finish, this bottle seems mature, but holding well. I actually purchased 11 bottles of this 2000 on WineBid around 2003/2004, Eric had quickly attained a ton of notoriety and respect on various online wine sites, including West Coast Wine, and a fair amount of people on that site (not me, but a close friend was active) purchased these early Brezemes, opened a bottle, and were (their words, not mine) overwhelmed by the very high acidity, so these wines were being dumped on WineBid for less than $10/bottle — I was happy to oblige (same story for the 2001 which I’ll post on next!! — 9 days ago

Stage 4 #tourdefrance leaves Champagne heading toward Alsace. This was interesting. Yeast nose with a grassy note. Complex with a bit of green flavors and some funk among the citrus fruit. A very complex blanc. Not sure my favorite but interesting. — 7 years ago

I was shockingly surprised with this one. Very pleased. This felt like I was dancing in the rain, while laying in a field of flowers. The fruity notes are wonderful. Quite reticent and backward .. needed some time to open up. Dark bramble fruits, earthy , mineral. Complex and kept changing in the glass. Lovely sweet black fruits and suave but noticeable tannins, good acidity . Very long in the mouth, very complete. It probably requires a touch longer in the cellar to open out a bit more but was very enjoyable. An excellent wine with a great future . — 8 years ago

Good example of a Cote- Rotie a bit to the international style with a good bit of newer oak. The wine is unfiltered, which gives a good sense of earth to the wine. Well made, good earth, bramble and some mushroom on the palate. Served with roasted chicken, polenta and sautéed spinach. — 8 years ago

Valle d’Aosta Nebbiolo (called Picotendro). Made from slightly dried grapes. Light ruby color. Aromas of cherry, plums and brambly herbs. More black fruits on the pallet along with hints of tobacco, coffee, dark chocolate and pepper spice. Nice mild oaky note on the extremely long finish.
