CHASING WINDMILLS GRENACHE Fulldraw Vineyard 2017

Dark fruit and allspice in the nose. Dark fruit, especially black cherries and currents with a hint of nutmeg. This is a really good Grenache. We are trying it as part of a Grenache tasting of one from Napa, Oregon, France and Spain. — 19 days ago

Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

It us really nice. Beautiful finish. Pleasantly surprised since there was only one Marlborough selection on the menu. Will look for this in the stores. — 6 months ago

Beyond the Clouds Alto Adige Bianco Chardonnay Blend 2021

May be my favorite Chardonnay. Balanced on a razor’s edge of acidity — 10 months ago

Fresh lime juice. Softened a bit by neutral oak barrels I guess. Nice acidity. — 3 months ago

Clouds Rest

Femme Fatale Estate Grown Pinot Noir 2016

Quite surprising. Smelled of black currants, blackberries. Tasted of prunes with nice acid at the end and not much tannins. Really dark fruit. — 6 months ago

McLaren Vale Grenache 2021

I made no notes at the restaurant so doing this from memory. Firstly when the menu is degustation, I never get the matching wine option, preferring to choose a bottle that goes with all courses as much as possible. This light to medium bodied Grenache fits the bill and ticks all the boxes - best district for Grenache in Australia; old vine Grenache, a terrific vintage in South Australia; and a hands off, alternate producer. Grenache can be such a chameleon from barely medium weight with stalky red fruits like this one, with a lovely red floral perfume, to full bodied versions like Rayas and Bonneau Celestins. Barb and I really enjoyed this. Also, Delectable, this was a Grenache Carignan blend - not offered in your database. Continuing our road trip through the Mornington Peninsula. — 4 months ago

Yes , David. I like what we call BYOs in Australia where we can “Bring Your Own” with a corkage charge. A great idea!

Château Rol Valentin

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

From a 375ml.
PnP a bit tight, but luxurious dark fruits,
tannins prevalent but chewy.
Lots of Blue/Black fruit and muddy gravel. Loamy, calls for protein.
Some comments said this was drying. I get that, but not to the point of being unpleasant. Chasing LdH ‘04 is a tough act to follow. This previously garage wine 90-10 Merlot/Cab Franc definitely treads the blacker, more treacly edge.
Not heavy, but black.
