Deep crimson with slightly red tint, opaque, compact rim.
Classic Right Bank bouquet of black truffle, dark cherry, dark plum, licorice, medium extracted coffee.
Soft but full of character - as classic as it gets. Silky mouthfeel, always full of dimensions. Blueberry, blackberry, raspberry, cocoa, with a trace of jammy fruit but not overly so.
Drank at Logis de la Cadene in St Emilion. Superb wine with plenty left in the tank. 91++ — 7 years ago

2005 vintage at Logis de la Cadene in Saint Emilion. Pale ruby hue - edging to garnet. Full concentration of red berries, raspberries and strawberry, florals - white flowers, violets and roses, white pepper, spices. Vanilla essence with air. Huge complexity. Still remarkably youthful - not the typical savoury character of older Rayas's. On the palate, a joy. Medium acidity, medium plus body, medium plus alcohol and full concentration. Medium tannins - round and ripe. A textural wine - coats the palate. The flavours are changing on a minute by minute basis - framboise and spice, floral and deep. Very long finish. Superb. Being a CB I don’t have much to compare it with but I still enjoy it. So different to the other varieties. This one has a slightly too sweet start and a flash of tanginess at the very end but overall, mellow and delicious. — 2 years ago
