Capo Zafferano

Primitivo di Manduria 2021

Deep ruby in color;blackberries, plums, and graphite on the nose; high acidity; medium plus tannins; tastes like blueberries, bkackberry jam, white pepper, and clay pots with a long finish. Nellie didn't like it, but I do. — a year ago

Tasca D'Almerita

Almerita Brut Chardonnay

Very refreshing siting by the pool at Capo Faro winery. Citrus, yeasty, and a candied aroma….perhaps butterscotch. Crisp on the palette with a nice acidity. — 4 years ago

Domaine du Pegau

Cuvée Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2004

Sublime. Iron fist, velvet glove and all that. Beyond doubt that this cuvée rocks when Capo not made. Decant briefly and sip away slowly. — 6 years ago

Sine Qua Non

Capo dei Putti Eleven Confessions Vineyard Estate Syrah

Still pretty fresh for 10 years. Chunky and chalky. Baked blue fruit, spice is where it’s at. White pepper, black walnut, cinnamon. Coating finish but lacks in complexity like other vintages — 2 years ago

Domaine du Pegau

Cuvée da Capo Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenache Syrah 2000

Cantine Colosi

Secca del Capo Malvasia 2018

Italy. White. Sicilian.
100% Malvasia grapes. This was a really interesting one; got hints of sea salt more than fruit (maybe some lemon and nectarine), straw color, thick compared to most Italian white blend/moscato/Pinot Grigio...more like a chardonnay consistency but no buttery taste - tasted much lighter. Think of cooking with butter vs olive oil - this is more like olive oil. Went wonderfully with seafood (spaghetti alle vongole)...used it to cook the dish too. Don’t really taste the alcohol (13.5% alc. by vol.). I really liked it and it was unlike other whites I’ve tried. More expensive than other whites I’ve tried but I definitely would get it again as I felt it had more depth. Not a sparkling or wine with “zing”.

Law Estate Wines

The Nines by Law Grenache 2016

Shay A
9.4

I’ve had a few Law wines and have enjoyed them all, but this bottle of “The Nines” was a total stunner. In a lineup of 16 bottles of Grenache (Andremily, SQN, Fingers Crossed, Saxum, Lillian, Alban, Pegau Capo, Prefert, Clarendon Hills, etc), this was one of the more surprising wines of the day (in a good way).

100% Grenache. Removed the cork for about an hour ahead of time. Undeniable Grenache aromatics of red florals, cherry/kirsch liqueur, black peppered strawberries, and fruitcake. As Grenache so wonderfully does, it has a weightless yet commanding palate…kaleidoscope of red and black berries, sweet jerky, and an interplay of both sweet and spicy spices. Doesn’t show whole cluster/green hints like some of the others, and it also doesn’t show overwhelming vanilla/oak tannin either. Elegant and delicious.

May have underscored this…

Sine Qua Non

Female Grenache 2013

A study in power, grace and femininity. Closest thing I’ve experienced is a Cuvée de Capo CnDP, and this rivals it. Gob-smacking but loaded with layers of flavours - white flowers, tangy red fruit, smoked meat, licorice. No sign of 15.7% alcohol. Can only imagine how well this might age. — 7 years ago
