Bodega Matador Abadia Retuerta

Abadia Retuerta

Selección Especial Estate Grown Sardon de Duero Tempranillo Blend 2019

Blend of 64% Tempranillo, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Syrah, 6% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, deep Ruby red color with aromas of red and black fruit and toasty spice, from a warmer year. The palate shows plum and blackberry flavors with smoke, cacao and spice. Vivid acidity, firm ripe tannins, integrated lending to a medium+ finish ending with some earthy notes. — 4 months ago

Cuvée El Campanario Vino de la Tierra Castilla y León Tempranillo

In my humble opinion, one of the best choices available in Spain for the price. The neighboring vineyards are Vega Sicilia! — 9 years ago

Bodegas Faustino

Gran Reserva Faustino I Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2001

One of the best wines I have tasted in the last 30 days together with the Abadia Retuerta one. Cherry and Star anise on the nose. Juicy Dark Cherry, Plum fruit, Vanilla and the right amount of Oak to make it flavorful with an elegant finish. — 10 years ago

Agree with you about this and the Retuerta. Not to mention, I also thought they were completely different wines, with the Faustino being very old world leaning, while the Retuerta was much more new world.

I think is the varietals that each wine uses
in their blends that make them different, with Faustino using only Spanish varietals
and A. Retuerta mixing Tempranillo with French varietals. Nevertheless they are both delicious.

Leather, suede black fruits, dark and brooding finish. On deck for lamb loin. Having tasted it as a barrel sample, can attest it is taking on age well. — 11 years ago

This wine joined us for a meaty dinner. Tart berries. Medium acidity. A shy wine that needs time to open up. Delicious and easily drinkable — 6 years ago

Tasted blind. So difficult for us in Bordeaux to identify the variety. But so clearly Spanish, and very good. — 11 years ago
