A spicy mix of crushed black cherries, cloves, mint leaf and smoke form a seductive display as the 2015 Taurasi Riserva Poliphemo Vecchie Vigne slowly blossoms in the glass. It’s silky and pliant upon entry, quickly gaining a more tactile feel, as tart berries laced with sour citrus and minerals saturate the senses. The sheer mass and concentration here is something behold, yet more impressive is how harmonious it remains, as vibrant acidity battles fine tannins for supremacy. The end result is a finale that’s structured yet leaves the mouth watering for more, as violet florals, cocoa and an inner animal muskiness slowly fades. In my opinion, the 2015 vintage has firmly placed Luigi Tecce on the map in Taurasi. (Eric Guido, Vinous, January 2022)

Seriously serious Corsican white. Reduced at first, a healthy shaking and vigorous swirling helped quite a bit. Started off closed and leesy, finished musky, deep and rich. Bergamot, quince on the palate, some real stony / saltiness on the finish. Acidity is more prickly than nervy. Really evocative stuff - tastes of the dramatic battles where the land meets the sea. Think heavier, oilier fish cooked in olive oil / butter / garlic. Nice discovery... — 5 years ago

Light gold, young and vibrant in the glass with nice weight. Cochey nose... notes of citrus and pineapple, petrol and wet stone, tan spice and some hazelnut. Massive core of acidity battles against the rich/round fruit. This is a home run in terms of hitting this at a peak drinking window... everything you want in a nicely aged white burg. Regan Meador uprooted his Long Island operation and moved it to Texas after permit battles over a tasting room. The second chapter would focus on grapes grown best in the Texas Hill Country. In this instance, Mataro and Dolcetto. This is an important turning point for Texas wine - not on the wave of sweet jammy reds or unremarkable rose’. Relying instead on place and time.

If gamay would ripen a bit, it would be this blend. It has a crimson brick color and piney red berries. 100% stem inclusion. The Dolcetto gives a dark dried fruit flavor profile. Raisins and dried bing cherries. And fresh salty minerals. — 5 years ago
