The Bart family is based in Marsannay and most famous for wines from their own village. However, like many OG families in Burgundy, they often have holdings in other areas. In the case of the Barts, they have holdings in Fixin, and even a couple of Grand Cru vineyards: Clos de Beze and Bonnes Mares. Their holdings in Bonnes Mares amount to a little over two acres that were inherited through the Clair side of the family. The vines are on the Chambolle Musigny side, right next to Comte Georges de Vogüe, and almost half of the vines are over 100 years old.

This bottle was opened sometime prior to dinner by our host. The 2016 pours a ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears and some signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of kirsch, black plum, mixed brambles, musk, red and purple flowers, sous bois and fine warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and the texture is silky; elegant. Every now and again, a wine comes into your life when you least expect it and leaves such an impression that you can’t stop thinking about it. This is one of those wines. In 1999, Jan and Bart founded Krupp Brothers, producing their first vintage: a Cabernet Sauvignon. A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc, 10% Malbec, 4% Merlot & 3% Petit Verdot, 28 months barrel aging, small 224 case production. Deep dark dense red with enticing fruit and herb floral aromas adding an underlying sweetness. Cherry, plum and blackberry flavors with tobacco and oak notes, some nuttiness. Yet another winning Marsannay from Domaine Bart. Superb nose shows a deep sousbois earthiness, a little smoky sandalwood, ripe oozing cherry, some crushed stone, and a dusting of spice. On the palate, it’s soft, nicely concentrated, and has a low-toned flavor profile of dark, pulpy cherry and dark savory notes. Tannins in the background but present enough to provide structural support. Pretty decent acids. Drinking really well now, this will easily handle a few more years. Delicious. — 8 months ago

A blend of a blend of 81% Cab Sauvignon, 13% Malbec 5% Cab Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, 21 months in French oak (90% new). Complex aromas ripe fruits, herb, spice and earthy notes. Flavors of blackberry, dark cherry and currants, big full flavors adding some cacao and espresso notes. Soft tannins, lingering finish ending with fruit and slight earthy mineral tone. Light golden in color.

On the nose ripe lemons, yellow apples, oak, light butter, citrus, vanilla, Indian spices, light honeysuckle and light tangerines.

Full bodied, creamy and bold, with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with red apples, oak, vanilla, citrus, spices, sea salt, white pepper and light earth.

Nice length on the finish with lemons and almonds.

This is a very tasty Chardonnay from Russian River Valley. Showing nice complexity, especially on the nose. I really enjoyed the nose more than the palate.

This four year old is drinking very nicely now with lots of oak and vanilla notes. Still very fresh.

Good right out of the bottle, and much better after 30 minutes of airtime.

This Single Vineyard Chardonnay is a good quality wine, that will continue to age nicely in the next five years. I've had this vintage a year ago, and it is much better now.

Nicely balanced with a great mouth feel. Buttery and creamy, and better when not very cold.

Aged in French oak barrels. A small production of only 350 cases.
