Dark sweet cherries, clay, orange rind, cardamon. Exotic potpourri spice without evidence of oak. Dry, with black-cherry and mulberry fruit. Round and expressive with a touch of heat to finish. Feels more like Barolo, very solid. Drink or hold. — 2 years ago

Have had before but a deeper appreciation for the grape and region now. Tart, candied, and dried cherries, intense rose pedal pushing towards tar aroma, silky mouthfeel cutting in and out with gripping tannins without them being overwhelming though. If you’re going to drink Nebbiolo but not barbaresco or barolo this is an excellent place to be — 3 years ago

Even 2010 was not as good vintage as in Barolo there are still excellent Barbarescos like this one. Nose screams Nebbiolo with ripe red berries, rose, some pine and licorice. On palate the wine does not quite match the nose but has nice sweet fruit that is hold by the midweight body. Tannins are still obvious and bit sandy with acidity that further supports the freshness. Finnish is just a tad short but regardless this is fully satisfying Barbaresco from one of the top producers — 2 years ago

Gorgeous Barbaresco...soft and perfumed...against the Barolo from La Morra..could be tough to tell each apart! More menthol and sweet tobacco here...acid/alcohol/tannin at medium plus...great finish... — 3 years ago

Anthony’s Birthday barbaresco… tastes like that sweet Mojave rain…. Great body, Fantastic length, lots of acidity and aging potential. Great alternative to a Barolo on a great vintage year. Tar. Rose petals. Leather. Quintessentially Nebbiolo, but more approachable. — 10 months ago

I had a few members of the Tasting Group crew join me in a sort of, "help me drink down my cellar" gathering. Everyone had an opportunity to dig through the cellar and select a bottle of their choosing; the identity of the wine was kept from everyone else and then presented double-blind though, since the bottles were being pulled from my cellar, it wasn't a true double-blind situation for me. This was poured into a decanter about 30 minutes before service. The wine poured a deep garnet with a translucent core; no signs of sediment. On the nose, I was hit with the typical Nebbiolo characteristics of cherries, tar, earth, and dried herbs. On the palate, the wine was bone dry with stiff tannins and high acid; this had to be Nebbiolo from Piemonte. The fruit was wonderfully bright and fresh...but deep as well. The question was: is this Barolo or Barbaresco. The wine came across polished yet elegant and there was a traditional sensibility that was undeniable. It reminded me of Produttori Riserva; a cru like Rabaja or Asili...maybe Ovello? I called 2013 Produttori "Asili". Wow...the 2011 "Ovello" is smashing good right now and should drink really well for a long, long time. Bottle No. 10722. — 2 years ago
