A64 Rosso Del Salento Negroamaro Blend 2011

We have arrived in Puglia...

I haven't had much negroamaro experience. This is a blend with cab. Interesting that a 2011 can be this jammy. Worked ok.

Riserva Salice Salentino Rosso Malvasia Nera Negroamaro 2012

Blend of Negroamaro (90%) and Malvasia Nera (10%). Bright ruby color with a distinct brick rim. Aromas of black fruits, roasted meat and purple flowers. Flavors of black cherry, ripe plums and baking spices. Long, earthy and powerful finish. Bone dry, rustic and full bodied. Thanks for opening, Chris B. Revisited in October 2014. Still bright and fresh. Aging beautifully. — 6 months ago

7th Ceppo Primitivo di Salento 2018

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2018 Primitivo Settimo Ceppo displays black cherries, dusty roses and cloves on the nose. The palate is soft and round. Juicy acidity enlivens its red and blue fruits as sour citrus adds contrast. It finishes potent, long and fresh. The Settimo Ceppo is impressive. $20.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous, September 2023) — a year ago

Sincero Toscana IGT Super Tuscan Blend

Delish! Refreshing. There is a small fruitiness to dryness ratio but heavier on the fruity. Very good entertaining wine. I would drink this again. — 7 years ago

Nicole Rosso Toscana IGT Sangiovese

Hales? This was excellent. Soft, cherries, smooth, some depth and body without being too punchy. Didn't feel a 13.5% ABV. This was delightful and it seems to be very reasonably priced if you can get it. — 9 months ago

Scaloti Salento Negroamaro Rosato 2022

Smells of fresh red berries, florals and minerals underneath, then on the palate, linens and sour fruits come in—apparently, grapefruit is a standard tasting note on Negroamaro—who knew? My appreciation of the grape only grows. — a year ago

Capezzana

Barco Reale di Carmignano Sangiovese Blend 2014

I’m always wary of products that wear a an association with royalty (outside of a royal warrant) on their sleeve. Witness a certain dodgy perfume company that uses the Prince of Wales’s Three Feathers device (without the “Ich Dien” motto). The typo-riddled text on the _front_ label of this wine states that the vines grow in the “Barco Reale” mentioned by Cosimo de [sic] Medici in his decree of of 1716. What a surprise, then to look up the history, and it checks out! So what does it taste like? A sort of baby-supertuscan, just enough Cabernet in the blend to add a nice international feel and structure. A screaming bargain, the low price perhaps justifying a Medici namedrop. — 7 years ago
