Oh wow. This is amazing. Nose starts out reticent. Some spice, some chestnut. It will come. And it does! A gamey, feral, sweet aromas with saline develops. Wow. But man oh man the palate is just bonkers. Sweet, decadent but fiercely energetic and textured. Amazingly elegant tannins and such purity. OMG. This is sick. The level of refinement combined with the purity is fruit is insane. Perfectly ripened mid season cherries. Wow. Incredible concentration and just perfect ripeness. The fruit is plentiful and prodigious. Amazing length.
After an hour the nose is just killer. Amazing. Stunning smokey cherries. Like a potpourri. What a wine. — a month ago
Austere and elegant like an old Catholic matriarch. Dry on the palate, with soft aromas of cherry and vanilla. It pops with tart stone fruit up front, and lingers with leather and tobacco and faint baking spice. Pairs excellently with chicken, Parks and Recreation, and popcorn. — 2 months ago

What a nose. Also what a color. Watermelon licorice. Stunning cherry perfume. Early to mid season cherries. Amazing finesse and refinement. Gorgeous minerality. Smells like a Chambolle. Woodsy spices. So complex. Palate is energetic and so deep. Really incredible for an “entry level” wine. Even though it’s not priced like that. Stunning pure cherry fruit with a citrusy tang. Superbly elegant and intensely structured with terrific linearity and freshness. Long sappy finish. In need of a few years but the sap and length of the finish make me think this might be a long distance runner. Really long. So so well made. Awesome concentration. Sappy and so dense. Just remarkable. Score may go up with air.
9.3 to 9.4. Gets more integrated and velvety after 3 or 4 hours. Stunning texture and freshness and pure sweet and tart fruit. So velvety. — a month ago
This was some of the best Nebbiolo I had in a while. 🔥🔥🔥 — 9 months ago
Higher acid, brightness. Tasty. I think this bottle would help with more time to open up. — 2 months ago
Nose is reticent at first but has hints of glorious spice. Soon wood shavings (sawdust?) and a hint of sour cherries. It slowly opens into gorges spicey mid season cherries. Gorgeous layering. Very floral as well. Rose petals. Fresh. Again, so so refined, delicate and cloud like. Palate is ripe and juicy with exquisite balance and purity. My goodness this is so refined and has such succulent and precise mid season cherry fruit. Juicy with just amazing cherry fruit. It just clobbers one over the head but it is so refined and juicy and long. Wow. Really concentrated and resonant. — a month ago
The 2007 Valtellina Superiore Sassella Riserva Rocce Rosse is another superb wine from Ar.Pe.Pe. Four years in cask and several more in bottle - along with the personality of the year - yielded a relatively soft Valtellina Superiore with gentle contours and plenty of appeal. Readers who prefer wines with delineation and energy will find those qualities more expressed in some of the other wines in this range. The 2007 Rocce Rosse, on the other hand, is a relatively easygoing wine that can be enjoyed with minimal fanfare. It also appears to be on a relatively fast curve of aging.
