Adegas Gran Vinum Mar de Viñas Albariño Rias Baixas/Val do Salnes 2018
A glass w work lunch of homegrown tomatoe/avocado and tinned sardines.
Medium yellow color. Aromas of drupe fruits (peach/apricot). Mouth is more about peach pit with a hint of bitterness and a savory, salty element. Went better w the tomatoes than the sardines (umami harmony?)

The 2015 Syrah Charles Heintz Vineyard is an outrageously beautiful, vivid wine. A rush of blue and purplish fruit, lavender, licorice and dark spice make a strong opening statement. Today, the tannins are a bit overpowering, but time in bottle will do the trick. The 2015 was fermented in concrete, with 10% whole clusters, and aged in a combination of concrete and oak. Readers who can find the wine should not hesitate. Heintz is one of the top vineyards in California. Getting a glimpse of the site through the lens of Syrah it makes for a deeply fascinating experience. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Mar 2017) — 9 years ago

Don’t know how much longer this wine has: 2006 showing its age with nose of secondary notes of saddle leather, Earth, soil, forest floor, barnyard and spices. Nice mouthfeel but the tannins were a little tired, brick on edges of glass with truncated finish. Big glycerin quality - hi alcohol. Great to see wines from this DO become more popular — 8 years ago
Belo vinho, frutado, média estrutura, média persistência. Equilibrado. Vai muito bem com comida japonesa e frutos do mar! — 9 years ago
This beauty accompanied a meal at Mar de Ardura (may see a Michelin Star soon?). A Galician Ribeira - grassy, astringent, and great with seafood. — 9 years ago

Clean, crisp & delicious. Excellent afternoon sipper. — 7 years ago
Deliciously phenolic and full of character from its oxidative upbringing and bottle age. More gras and texture than precision and lift. Golden yellow orchard fruits, a touch of something tropical like pineapple, slightly bruised, beeswax, lanolin, tea leaves, green almonds, herbs. Theres some really nice “sweet” tones to the wine; carmel, cinnamon, honey that I really enjoyed. Slightly challenging at first but rewarding with contemplation, really lets you peel back the layers with air and temperature increase. Would think this would really come around and freshen up at the 10-12 year mark like most Rhône whites do. 50 ROUS 24 MAR 10 GRBL 8 CLA 8 CH — 7 years ago

Birthday dinner for a '77 and '90 tonight. Celebrated at Addison and indulged in the chef's choice menu. I'm not sure how many courses we had--12, 13, 14??--but it was the single most foundation shaking culinary experience I've ever experienced. If you are ever in Del Mar do yourself a favor and dive in mouth and feet first! The Martha's was full of sumptuous fruit, dusty tannins and fun funk. None of the tell tale eucalyptus or menthol but a very fun treat. — 9 years ago
