Orin Swift Cellars

Abstract Grenache Blend 2019

History dates back to 1995 when on a lark, David Swift Phinney took a friend up on an offer & went to Florence, Italy to spend a semester “studying”. During that time, he was introduced to wine, how it was made, & got hooked. A Grenache, Syrah & Petite Sirah blend. Aromas of fresh ripe red fruits with floral & spice. On the palate flavors of cherry & raspberry with cacao & espresso notes on sweet savory soft tannins, well balanced, lingering finish ending with fruit & toasty oak. Nice! Consistent Quality! — 2 months ago

'Abstract' Three Rows Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Peach’s and cream. Same passion fruit and white stone fruit flavour profile as the standard bottling but the oak gives more mid palate weight and depth of flavour. Prefer Dog Point Section 94 but this is still by bang for your buck. — a year ago

Palermo Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Classic St Helena Cab. Jill really liked. Eric like the Abstract just as much, Jill prefers the Palermo. — 4 years ago

Sine Qua Non

In The Abstract White Blend 2012

Deep yellow in color with a golden hue.

The nose is so interesting with lots of unique flavors. Oak, vanilla, nuts, citrus, honey and spices.

Full-bodied and bold with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with yellow apples, citrus, lemons, apricots, minerals, honeysuckle, oak, herbs, vanilla, flowers, spices, earth, white pepper and light vegetables.

Long finish with limes and almonds.

This is a beautiful 11-year-old White blend from California. Showing a soft mouth feel with nice complexity and good balance.

Drinking so nicely right out of the bottle at this point. Elegant and soft. Rich and fruity. Opulent, spicy and interesting.

A great sipping wine, really tasty and just a gorgeous wine.

Robert Parker 97 points.

A unique blend of 37% Chardonnay, 31% Roussanne, 16% Petite Manseng and 16% Viognier. Aged for 19 months in (27% new) French Oak barrels and in concrete egg vessels.

15.2% alcohol by volume.

94 points.

$250.

I would not have predicted a Cali white with 15.2% alcohol would still be drinkable, let alone this good. After 11 years!

Medlock Ames

Bell Mountain Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Very ‘cool’ label. Abstract art. Lovely color. Purple-maroon with a magenta rim. Deep. Violets and berries on the nose. Cinnamon, clove, tar and piney forest as well. Cranberry or mulberry too. Has an acid streak. Pretty low-soft tannins and very drinkable for a young Cab. Balanced. Nice blend of herbs and berries in the mouth. Slightly zingy. Cigars tobacco leaf over cigar box. Finish is pure Bell Mountain. This is excellent Cab & will age well, but is A-OK now. — 4 years ago

Paso Robles Proprietary Red 2016

It’s value for money night. This is a nicely balanced and very approachable blend from Austin Hope. It is a little more restrained than the Cabernet which can be a little too sweet and extracted but it has a great combination of fruit and spice flavours. I enjoyed this and would add it to my ‘bankers’ under $30 along with Orin Swifts Abstract and Daou’s The Pessimist. — 5 years ago

Goosecross Cellars

Napa Valley Petit Petite 2016

Deep purple with a nose of olive , lilac, raisin, tomato leaf, cigar box, and a hint of tar and vanilla. Very interesting aroma on this one. Good full-bodied mouthfeel with a hint of fruit on the front, but moves quickly into the flavors noted on the nose. A brooding wine with depth and earthiness. This is an interesting wine and fits the abstract series from Goosecross from which it comes. Definitely will be picking up more of this in the future. — 3 years ago

Orin Swift Cellars

Machete Petite Sirah Blend

The label is, as usual, original. It's my fourth wine from Orin Swift Cellars (after "Abstract", "Papillon" and "Palermo"). And it's fantastic.

it is a blend of petite syrah, syrah and grenache. Ink color. The nose is full of fruity aromas: a plum, a blackberry and a blackcurrant and sweet liqueur aromas. Also the palate. But there you can also find a leather and a cocoa. Pleasant acidic finale reduces sweetness and closes this wine.
