This was one of those OMG wine moments. Dude, this wine abides. Dude, this wine really pulls the room together. This wine is the DUDE! Inky black, cork stained to the core; I could sign my name with it. Explosive aromas of dried flowers, roasted plums and smoked meat followed by a mouthful of dark chocolate covered cherries, cinnamon and a woodsy patina. Finishes with gobs of bacon fat and silky tannins! — 11 years ago
This wine in a few words, "rustic elegance". Definitely in the pretty side of the north Rhône. Pristinely ripe red fruits (red plum and pomegranate) are joined by a sprinkling of something darker and a little dried, morello cherry or black raspberry. Pretty red floral accents as well. This reveals its true identity with a basso profundo blast of beef stock meatiness, BBQ smoke, and cured Moroccan black olives. Earthy tilled soil, porcini, tobacco, and a light molasses-y sweetness from oak round this profound and complicated wine. The purity, length, and seamless texture here are astounding. Proof that the grandmaster abides and it tastes like more than 500 years of winemaking expertise. Ne plus ultra for the appellation assuredly and a great way to understand the heart of Syrah. Not backwards or shut down at all, but this has a very long life in front of it. — 10 years ago
The dog abides when this stuff comes out. Drank this next to the Arnot Roberts Trout Gulch of the same vintage (AR was on its 2nd day). This was a medium shimmering yellow color, compared to the pale yellow, slightly green tinged AR. It is silkier and longer on the palate, with notes of lemon curd, oily grapefruit rind. A little more finesse and power, a little less bright acidity. I give this version of the trout the slight edge tonight but they are both great and have different functions in the lineup — 7 years ago
One of the best Sauv Blancs I've tasted in a long time. Light grapefruit on the nose, but not overpowering...no slapping of the nostrils here just "Chillax dude" (the dude abides). The acidity is clear on the palate but it's a crisp citrus taste, again, very clean and fresh...again not overpowering. This is a great wine to enjoy with a sharp cheese...we had it with a truffle infused pecorino (Moliterno black truffle pecorino...amazing). This is a very refreshing Sauv Blanc, I highly recommend this...it's made me want to seek out more Chilean Sauv Blancs!! — 9 years ago
Almost playful at outset, gets bigger and better as night progresses. Stunning the 2nd night. Pax Mahler abides. — 11 years ago
