Lorcher Krone Riesling Kabinett 1983 Rheingau, Germany
It is always interesting to drink these kind of old wines, but it is never a sure thing. This 38 year old Riesling is not at its peak for a while now.
Nice deep golden in color.
Medium bodied with high acidity.
Dry to off dry on the palate with lemons, citrus, limes, green apples and spices.
Tangy finish with limes.
This 38 year old is tangy and interesting, but not as complex as I wanted it to be.
Good by itself and better with food. A little oxidized on the nose, but not on the palate. Has a light cider feel.
Wasn't that pleasant right out of the bottle, but opened up nicely after 20 minutes of airtime.
Not balanced anymore, but still interesting and easy to drink.
I paired it with spicy Ahi Tuna and seaweed salad.
Bottled in September of 1984. A small production of only 3,690 bottles.
10% alcohol by volume.

Visiting Fredericksburg TX for a few days. This is TX hill country and has a big winery community. Never tried any TX wines before but found a few surprises here. We tasted at Becker earlier today but not this wine. $30 on the restaurant wine list. Becker wasn’t our favorite stop but it is the only local winery represented on their list. Overall local wines seemed overpriced compared to CA wines. Just realized we had an older vintage (2018) on our last trip from Houston to Anaheim. It’s interesting that most of the grapes used in the local wines come from Lubbock (panhandle) area. Don’t know where these grapes came from, or what varietals are present. — 2 months ago

A great Texas Hill Country Merlot — 2 months ago
A high-acid, mouth-puckering assault on the palate. Tightly wound even with a decant, I can’t imagine this on a pop n pour. Layers of mineral & tart fruit; hint of petrol comes almost as a respite from the onslaught. Ok maybe I’m slightly exaggerating. Cool wine. — 3 months ago
