James Berry Vineyard Red Rhône Blend 2006

Wow. This is one vintage before what I view as Justin’s transformative vintage of 2007 - kind of like Einstein in 1904 for any science geeks out there. This took about 30 min to come into focus, but once it did - wow. It’s a bit more heavily extracted to my palate than what he’s done ever since, but if you cool this down a few degrees and give it some time, you are richly rewarded with layers of intense but balanced fruit that belies its 15 years. A great foreshadowing of what has come to pass, this is amazing. — 14 days ago

James Berry Vineyard Syrah Blend 2014

At 42% grenache, 24% mourvedre, 21% syrah, 8% counoise, and 5% roussanne, this one is still a bit too young for my tastes (and still merits a 9.4). Give it a couple of more years in bottle or decant it for 2-3 hours. Still awesome, though! — 7 days ago

Jessie James Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018

9.3

Startling nose of spices and mulberry. Gorgeous cherry flower and such intensity. Wow. Cherry compote almost but herbal as well. Superb complexity. Much more open aromatically than before. Palate needs an hour. It’s juicy but also initially lean. Terrific inner mouth aromas and such purity. Such acid and freshness! Wow. Can tell this is a cool climate Pinot. Gorgeous vivid cherry fruit but this is at 10% capacity right now. I’ll be back. — 16 days ago
