Decanting. Still a bit tight. Gritty Syrah. Mourvèdre pops as wine airs. Vanilla came on strong over time. Tannins softened into a lovely experience.

My experiences with aging 2013 california wines has been mixed but this is evolving nicely. As with the wine and the vintage there is still plenty of structure but it’s drinking well. Not perhaps as lush as saxum’s can be but I like how the typical syrah flavor profile comes through.

Exceptional blend. Mostly Syrah but the Grenache shines. Bold red with great depth. Lovely floral nose of violets and berries. Big winner tonight.

This wine is a beast: took three days for this to open up. Once it did it was excellent, but sampling in the days leading up it was incredibly closed. Admittedly the wine was in the fridge with the cork in it, but if you’re going to drink this anytime soon, I’d strongly recommend decanting it for at least 3-4 hours in advance (maybe longer).

Blind. Almost whole table guessed Saxum. This is pure bliss. Too young but worth every sip. Tied for my fave of the night. Great fruit profile. Heat did not show. I will let these rest but it will be hard to keep my hands off of them
