Fino Jarana Very Dry Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Palomino Fino

Salty, fresh, and different. This wine is ever-evolving, and always pleasing. Unlike any other style of wine this fino is at the top of its class. Like taking a shot of lemon juice out of an oyster shell. Its flinty nose and chalkiness, leads into a citrus based mid-palate with dehydrated yellow apple skin, and lemon for days. P.S. (Pagos Seleccionados) Ribera del Duero Tinto Fino 2017

Modern take on Ribera del Duero from select vineyards. The color is deep purple, indicative of the 60+ year old vine grape selection. An expressive nose with scents of black fruits, tobacco and leather. The mouthfeel is equally expressive with cherry, blackberry, oak, vanilla, and licorice. The tannings are soft for such a young Tempranillo, and it is not slander but quite the contrary, it allows for the elegant finish with finesse and length. Very exiting wine!

PS The mastermind/winemaker behind Aalto made his mark at Vega Sicilia for over 30 years. It is no surprise the wine is excellent; it will be exciting to see how the wine evolves over the next decade and how it will challenge some of the greatest wines produced in the region.

Unfortified flor-aged 100% Palomino by Dirk Niepoort & Equipo Navazos, sourced from the historic Macharnudo vineyard in Jerez. Fermented in old, 600-liter oak casks with indigenous yeasts and aged for 12 months under flor. Oxidative nose with hints hay and pineapple. Light, mineral, precise and bone dry on the mouth, with nice saltiness and a long, somewhat bitter finish. — 3 days ago
