At first it taste like any other higher end natty red wine. I would have believed it was Carignan or Pais no problem. But with air things came together and it’s started to actually taste like Gamay, with sweet red berries, pink peppercorn, and woodsy earth. High acid, long finish. Good, but not great. — 6 days ago

Consisting of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca & Tinta Amarela, this wine presented a lot of structure & black fruit; a pleasantly fresh and expressive Douro wine leaving you wanted to try more. Like picking up a cute Chilean Chihuahua & finding you have a German Shepard on hand: on opening all disjointed & astringent, like many a 14$ wine is. But behold, several minutes later in glass & the pedigree begins to show: a firm light-medium body, medium + acidity, a tannic structure- think Etna, but meaner (the Shepard)-gorgeous black & dark red fruits, with that volcanic mineral undertow. From old, ungrafted Pais vines. Like really old, pre- phylloxera. A little chill works here too. Pais? Chile? Not your cute pop ‘n pour, just give it that mini decant & ye shall see the light. — 6 months ago

Ruby purple in colour. Dark fruits aroma. A little spice, mild tannins with dark stone fruits and a slight smoky hint too.

Enjoyable on its own and with homemade ham and mozzarella pizza.

Grand Itata Los Amigos Red Blend 2014

Dang, this wine has such a unique, complex expression, hopping across layered aroma and flavor categories! It’s a 2014 Rogue Vine, Grand Itata Tinto, Los Amigos Red Blend hailing from the granite hills of ITATA in Southern Chile.

This wine is made with 95% Cinsault and 5% Pais varieties, coming from organically grown, dry-farmed (no irrigation), bush-trained vines that are over 60 years old!!

This wine has a pale ruby hue with secondary garnet influences.

On the nose, it has developing, intense aromas of black cherry, strawberry, anise, mint, eucalyptus, potpourri, clove, black olive, rooibos tea, tobacco, cigar, peat moss, and leather.

On the palate this wine is dry, it has medium acidity, medium alcohol (12.8%), a medium body, medium(-) tannins, and medium(+) intensity in flavors consistent with the nose. The finish lingers.

I love that this wine is the product of a fierce passion, shared by friends (and friends of friends), who have committed themselves to producing expressive Itata wines that are gulpably delicious! Salud!
