Vignolo Terre Siciliane Syrah 2013

Lyle Fass

Nose is wild and funky. Verset like immediately comes to mind. It’s wild and funky but also has class, deep Syrah character and refinement. Some VA, some funk, some elegance, leather, berry fruit, some brett, it is all there and coming out to play but somehow it works. Way better than the ghastly 12’s. Palate is juicy and rustic, with nice juiciness and purity. Definitely get a Sicilian vibe from this. Tinny but in a good way. Wild, rustic and pure. Juicy with good fruit and lovely tannins. Rustic, charming and juicy. Long. No finesse but it makes up for it in charm. Very good.

BIG improvement on day 2. Gorgeous aroma. Meaty, floral and gamey. Palate is silky and sweet. 8.9 to 9.1. Juicy and terrific florals. Sappy.

Satèn Franciacorta Blend 2012

Saten is the unique style to the Franciacorta and this version truly make me picture the Garda Lake
Not at all a "I want you to like me" wine even though softness is intrinsic to the category
Oxidative notes, quite austere and complex
It's hiding, it drink like a well aged complex Chardonnay a bit

Pas Operé Franciacorta Chardonnay Pinot Nero 2009

Lyle Fass

Gorgeous nose. Floral, cherry, red fruits, lemon, lime, smells like elite Champagne. The Pinot Noir shines through. Palate is a bit broad and all over the map. Good parts, and maybe dosage is also a bit high for my tastes. Meh. Maybe improve with air. Solid but inconsequential. — a month ago

Terre Siciliane Il Frappato 2017

From Boeufhaus, loved it. The 2017 is a fresh and elegant red wine. The nose presents notes reminiscent of violets, cherries and certain citrus fruit. On the palate it is a light wine, full of fruit. It is persistent and with an acidity that brings freshness. — 4 days ago

Piccolo Fiore Terre Siciliane Rosso

V enjoyable. Plenty of fruit without being rich. Enough tannin to keep it honest. Nice on its own. Did not go as well with a tomato based sauce but not too much clash. Good value for $8 — 14 days ago

Terre des Aînés Gigondas Red Rhone Blend 2016

Delicious. Pure purplish ruby. Seductive floral aromas of lavender, violet, black raspberry, mint and anise seed. Palate is polished, creamy, and weightless. Fruity and sweet, with a nice acidic twang and fine tannins rounding out the finish. So smooth! Drinks like a bottle that cost twice as much... worth stocking up on! I think this will be even more beautiful in time. — 14 days ago

Terre Antiche

Rubino Cesanese del Piglio 2019

First bottling for this Cesanese del Piglio producer, and it’s very interesting. Still young and a bit harsh on the tannins, but the style is lean and elegant. Not a typical Cesanese. Notes of Dolcetto-like dark fruit, crossed with floral Nebbiolo elements. — 17 days ago

Paix Sur Terre

Songs of Its Own Glenrose Vineyard Grenache Blend 2012

Terrific wine from Ryan Pease at Paix sur Terre. Still retaining a lot of fruit and very elegant on the palate, this has really developed nicely over that past few years. Not sure if it’s going to improve much at this point, so my advice is to enjoy this one now. — 8 days ago
